The Reaper by Paul Rees-Jones This is about the Reaper family, / A serious bunch, never too silly. Well, in truth, it’s about one, / One who reaps with a bit of fun. The youngest in the Reaper clan, / Quite a smart, little dead man. He brought a group of playful kids, / To the yard, oh yes he did. And why, you ask, would he save? / Just release them from their graves? When you are a Reaper Grim, / The days are long and awful dim. But to this small little reaper, / Loneliness ran a little deeper. So he made his friendly ghouls, / By breaking about 20 rules. But it’s worth it when the day is done, / Cause this lil Reaper finally has fun!

Mordron Is the Welsh Mother Goddess. / Our earth, we need to came to fundamentals. / We must remember where we come from. I used many fractals here. I wanted to depict the “unreal” part of this world representated by Her Mother. / Tool of the trade is Paint Shop Pro. / One photo of the model, then about 40 layers of fractals. arf arf… i cut and pasted a lot, above all to make the details of the dress. Watercolor on watercolor board, original available Rhiannon is a Welsh goddess known by many names and in many manifestations, associated with light, summer, warmth, abundance, white horses, and birds to name a few. She has many faces and turns up again and again in the great mythic cycles for she is the primal force of nature and life itself. One of her better known manifestations left the realm of Fairie and her marriage celebration with a god in order to elope and wed a mortal. For this she was banished from the fairie dimension, lost immortality, and most of her powers. Still, Rhiannon maintained some relationships with the Fae,small birds, and wild creatures. If you’ve read the Mabinogion, you know she kept herself focused and centered during the many dark years that followed,never abandoning hope. The shadows in the painting are included because as we live, we acquire knowledge of what dwells within those shadows. Like the fairies, shadows may appear to be one thing and later prove quite another. Passing through dark forests in life sometimes leaves us bitter or unteathered spiritually, we might feel aimless, frustrated, or angry. Holding sacred the inner heart light enables us to take both the bitter and sweet of our existance and expand inner vision by seeing beyond our immidiate needs and sensations. Life can and will still hurt, very much so at times, but rather than destroy us the experience can prove transformative. The white dove is sacred in many spiritual traditions, and is included because she’s also associated with Rhiannon (and Aphrodite). Behind it burns the inner fire of Rhiannon’s being. Lainers the Happy Lil Dead Girl by Paul Rees-Jones She floats around the light, / That shining orb so bright. She knows its ringing call, / But doesn’t want it at all. Skin so white, cheeks pink and red, / Content in being the living dead. Her friends are cold, just like her, / Living and playing, just like they were. And oh the joy of pranks and scares, / To those who trespass without cares. Moaning and groaning like a ghost, / Is something she like the most. Flying free, spinning in a whirl, / Lainers the happy lil dead girl.

I have always loved ruined and bare country chapels where the outside elements seem to be brought in through the windows and shafts of light. To me, the deep greenwood and forests are nature’s chapels,which can bring you closer to the divine than any grand,gold guilded cathedreal. For me there is no seperation between the divine and the natural world around us…..and I have found peace and harmony many times amongst the sacred Celtic springs and ancient trees in forgotten corners of this country. This image was particularly inspired by the small holy wells of South West Cornwall, where even to this day poeple leave offerings and gifts to the water elements and the old Gods.

Now in her wise woman aspect she returns to the underworld with the energies of the earth to rest and digest the years growth and lessons.The nights grow longer in the dark grip of winter untill the Sun is re-born at Yule (Winter Solstice) and the Goddess will return re-newed and virginal at Imbolc (Feb 2nd)

Skelly Puppy by Paul Rees Jones There is a boy whose life is quite tough, / He works for his dad and its never enough. He works alone almost everyday, / Well not alone, cause his Puppy won’t stay. A lovely pup, always trying to please, / A pup who luckily never gets fleas. So faithful and loyal to that Reaper, / His master, his friend and keeper. A dog is man’s best friend, / But also a boy’s to the end. And Skelly Puppy never has to get fed, / Afterall he’s already dead.

Watercolor and colored pencil. Original sold. Here the Lady Ki, Mother Earth, reclines beneath Enki, the Stag King. In many cultures throughout history the elk, deer, or stag is connected with nobility, virility, and untamed, wild nature. They are resting after their combined efforts creating the land and all that dwells upon, within, and above it. This painting was inspired by Sumerian creation myths dating earlier than 5000 BCE. I’m depicting the god Enki, often associated with the stag, and Lady Ki, or Mother Earth. Together this divine pair created what is now refered to as the Fertile Crescent; Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey. Below is a brief explanation of this painting, which Ive written as if spoken by master magician Enki, patron god of artisans, also known as Sweet Water. “From the very beginning, when my beloved and I first arrived at this place, we saw possibility. Creatrix and creator, together we fashioned clay prototypes for all manner of living beings. I assisting, Ki birthed our plant children and the world became a living tapestry. I then bathed her weary body with fresh flowing waters and on a whim, to see her smile, filled these with dancing fish. My Lady Ki: fertility itself, wherever she steps there springs forth abundance! We two, the Great Stag and Mother of Earth, populated the earth with all that runs and flies. We always look for them, for these glimpses of lights and happiness. / Do we really know ourselves? / Do we realize that we have all of this inside of us? / What are we in fact? / As we don’t really look in the correct place, we don’t really know ourselves i decided to ‘almost’ delete the face. Beltane Beltane (April 30th-may 1st) is one of the four major Celtic festivals of the year and marks the beginning of Summer. The Goddess is decked in green and her wells and springs are believed to be at their most fertile and magical. (The Malvina Well used in this image was sculpted by Rose Garrard and can be found in the centre of Great Malvern,Worcestershire.)

Frankie and Temperance by Paul Rees-Jones Frankie was made in a hurry, in the lab, / Brought to life on a cold electric slab. He was given a body with all of the parts, / And was given an oversized heart. From the moment he saw her , she was his deliverence, / That dead Lil Zombie, the cute and lovely Temperance. He swooned and swayed, thought he’d pop a stitch, / Whenever around her, his voice lost it’s pitch. He planned and tried so often to say, / The words in his heart every day. Now if he knew how Temperance felt for him, / He wouldn’t have worry, nor feel so grim. Cause when she looked at him with her good eye, / Inside her cold heart was a loving sweet sigh. So there they are these sweet Lil dears, / All thats stopping their love is their silly fears.
