    US$3.99–US$91.20

This is a colab with jegustavsen who does some amazing typographic work… check it! “Every memorable act in the history of the world is a triumph of enthusiasm. Nothing great was ever achieved without it because it gives any challenge or any occupation, no matter how frightening or difficult, a new meaning. Without enthusiasm you are doomed to a life of mediocrity but with it you can accomplish miracles.” - Og Mandino

As I am practically brand new to design and photography, I want to play a game and get the RedBubble community involved. It is fairly simple and the reason behind it is to challenge my creativity and develop my skills. I would like people to post a comment with a word, concept, or theme… from A to Z (the alphabet) and I will challenge myself to create a piece of wall art, and t-shirt design for each posted comment. All work will be tagged a2z along with the corresponding topic and letter of the alphabet for an easy search function. Feel free to join in the fun… so what will A be?

  • 21.10.08 Compassion, Courage, and Friendship RedBubble Book Review: Is This The Worst Art Publication To Date?
    by ozlat

RedBubble claims to be an open and inclusive website where you can share your creative genius with the world, but with the new RedBubble book publication ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, it might leave people wondering where this creative genius got to in this instance. Mind you, the only people left wondering will be the people that haven’t got their grubby little hands on ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, everyone else will be enthralled as they flip the pages and allow themselves to be reduced to tears, anger, laughter, smiles, and deep thought time and time again. At first sight, ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’ seems like the perfect collectors item. A perfect square measuring 21.5 cm in all directions, and the spine labelled with the source and title, it would seem that the exterior design was thought through for the avid book collector. It’s not only bright and airy, but the aesthetics of the cover make you feel at ease and loved. Now sitting on the train and heading to college, I manage to be publicly seduced and buckle to the passionate gestures of ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’. The exquisite craftsmanship continues, with each captivating image and inspiring literature, matching perfectly to tell a story that might otherwise be lost. Someone made an effort and it certainly shows. The typeface has also been perfectly selected to match the theme and only add to the experience, it isn’t distracting and I don’t have to squint or learn another language to read it. Sure there are plenty of thought provoking images to immerse yourself in, but I say it once again, the literature that accompanies is a match made in heaven. Don’t take my word for it though, because as I sit here on a peak hour train critiquing ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, it seems I have some new-found friends reading along with me. The IT guy to my left, the somewhat hungover looking blondie to my right, and the people I can’t see but can feel breathing on my neck behind me (I know you’re there). I do have one hang up though, and it could be one of personal preference, but I was disappointed that the links to each artist where at the back of ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, as opposed to being directly beneath the featured art or literature piece. It might sound picky, but as a matter of convenience, it would allow the reader to more freely access their favorite artist or writer and go view their other works online. The works from the RedBubble community collected in this book illuminate the power of Compassion, Courage, and Friendship. They show us that when we go beyond our fears and truly see someone different to us, we look at something that can set us free. In concluding this review, I asked Sandra Iov, a fellow photography student to critique two images in ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, and here are her two favorites and an explanation of why: I Dreamt Of An Angel II by chrisdade “I like the contrast between the straight lines and the sharpness of the surroundings in comparison to the softness of the skin and shadows of the boys. I like the idea that although they may be perceived as homosexuals, it plays against the idea of their sin with the angel wings. It says what they do is not a sin.” – Sandra Brothers by Jinx “The older boy is keeping the younger brother safe from the darkness in the background. The bridge leads to the unknown and they look like they’re about to take that journey together. The contrast between the light on the boys and that of the forest is powerful.” – Sandra

So today is the day I sold my 100th t-shirt on RedBubble in 2009, I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank all the buyers thusfar, without you… I wouldn’t be writing this right now! Keep spreading the word so we may form an army of Deadmau5kateers, the best selling t-shirt by far, the buyers have been from far and wide, from all parts of the globe… let’s see some happy snaps donning the goods! You, Deadmau5, and the infamous tee ... now there’s a happy snap :) For those of you interested on what t-shirts are selling, then I have been kind enough to keep track of these things. From what I remember, I started keeping track for the consumer to know what is ‘popular’... now you know! Other than that, I plan to have another massive fundraiser for a humanitarian organization of my choice. Last year it was for Surfaid International, and I have a very strong feeling that it will be for them again. The plan is to sell 1,000 t-shirts within a 3 month period just before Christmas, so for the months of October, November, and December. Upon accomplishment, I will be donating $10,000 to Surfaid International… consider it my gift to the world Merry Christmas Basically I donate $10 per t-shirt once we hit the magic 1,000 t-shirt mark, or $5 per t-shirt if we fall short. Last year (2008) was a success with $155 being donated to Surfaid... spread the word so we can top that this year! That’s all folks :)

I hate to do this to you because I know that not everyone enjoys my little sales posts as much as I do… but I must thank a v-neck lover that just bought The Presets t-shirt… wooooo hooooo! And it has been brought to my attention that I must hit the little ‘reply’ button so people know I have replied. I won’t go back in time but I will start doing from now on… seems like such a great idea :)

So today was the start of my second week at uni studying a bachelor in visual communication (arts) majoring in photography. What can I say… 3 intense years to go! I’ve been introduced to the world of illustrator, and seemingly to the world of photoshop where intricate selections are mandatory… and behold, philosophy is part of my study schedule. Other than that I’m loving experimenting with the new tools I’ve been introduced to, and hopefully you will see more and more t-shirt designs that entice. More on the subject of photography, I’ve been doing some assisting work and have contacted a major production company in Sydney to get some more (fingers crossed). No camera work at uni until next semester or the one after, so unless I get some spare time, it’ll be vector t-shirts and vector/photoshop art for your viewing pleasure. Keep buying the t-shirts and feel free to send me requests as I need to practice some more, and then some, and be introduced to the world of ‘creative direction’.

I’ve been somewhat departed from RedBubble the last couple of weeks as I’ve been thinking about how I want my website to look and what sort of content I want to add. I opted for something different, hope you like the stripped back look. Make sure you watch the video on the homepage as it’s a killer song, and a killer video, and a killer website all round. On other news I enrolled in a course on how to attract customers, so in essence becoming the hunted as opposed to the hunter. I would highly recommend it as the principles can be applied to any business, whether bricks and mortar or online. So here are 7 free videos you should view and start implementing for short and long term results. And last but not least, after many different people approaching me to join a network marketing company, I finally did join one that I felt comfortable with. I don’t want to go into detail but you can check the Verve website and see what it is. If you do have an inkling to join as a member, don’t do it until you watch the 7 free videos (above).
