Thanks to the magic of inspiration, I have produced another painting. As usual, I am tempted to continue fiddling. It may need gold, perhaps… I know we are requested to only put finished images up….it could be finished! We’ll see.
This late afternoon image of a deteriorating old house was taken just outside Albertinia , located on the Garden Route in the Western Cape province of South Africa.

Acrylic, collage on canvas. / SIze: Height 864 mm x Width 567 mm Taking over a period of 12 months to complete, this work started out as four separate feature areas working from original sketches studied from nature in the landscape (Brampston Beach, Far North QLD) . They were then combined into the one composition. Features are textures/patterns of collaged pieces and thickly applied, textured acrylic gel with multiple paint overlays. In artist’s collection.
Mixed mediums: Acrylic, rice paper, linen thread, pigment powder on canvas. / Size: 613×917 x 42 mm; Framed size: 970×665 x 50 mm Concept: Practically stitches bind, attach, and connect materials and/or surfaces together and is a metaphor for human bonding. The stitch becomes the ‘thread’, linking and connecting to the human psyche. Using a needle and thread by hand to stitch is a slow, methodical and sometimes painful process, of pushing and pulling through materials. The process reveals the two sides (dual nature) and the in-between to this affair. / / Abstractly worked, the stitch is used metaphorically for relaying energies and relationship formations. / Spirit Matter Cosmos abstractly references and resonates concepts of duality, the conscious and unconscious, complexity and simplicity, the spirit and alchemy of ‘relationships’ (blood & gold symbolism), transitory formations (the faded) illusions to connections and perceived realities. Always within, is the ‘spirit’, the centre, a voice of wisdom that guides and directs us in and through and beyond the ‘matter’. A fantastic surface of rough, pitted, and rusted metal. Please click on the larger view for full effect. It’s actually the top of an iron pagoda style lantern on my deck.
I ❤ slow blues with a passion that knows no bounds…..this image is what I see when I hear Tin Pan Alley / WOW. Fractal rendered in Oxidizer and edited in Photoshop Elements 3. /
Time and hopes and tears / and frantic cries and giggles / circle the Universe / and swirl in tangles to the drain. / The Universe won’t end / with a bang or a whimper. / It will end with a glug-glug-glug. Fractal rendered in Oxidizer and edited and edited and edited until it whimpered and gave this up.Edited in Photoshop Elements 3, using a bunch of flamingpear plug-ins. Filters? / /
God of Thunder Yes, I was a KISS fan, of sorts. I STILL LOVE to hear this one, and couldn’t resist trying to bring it to life in a fractal. I hope you like it! / Fractal rendered in Oxidizer. Edited in Corel Painter Essentials 2, Photoshop Elements 3, and GIMP. / /
Here’s the Marble that will roll into the Center of Time and try to knock us all out. It’ll tumble toward Infinity and then stop. Just like that. Maybe we’ll be in its path and maybe we won’t. Place your bets now! / / Image rendered in Oxidizer and edited in Corel Painter Essentials 2 and Photoshop Elements 3. / /
Looks like a peacock, but not quite. Maybe a peahen put too many highlights in her feathers? Fractal rendered in Oxidizer and edited in Corel Painter Essentials 2 and Photoshop Elements 3. / /
Patina (ˈpa tə nə) is a film on the surface of bronze or similar metals (produced by oxidation over a long period); a sheen on wooden furniture produced by age, wear, and polishing; or any such acquired change of a surface through age and exposure. On metal, patina is a coating of various chemical compounds such as oxides or carbonates formed on the surface during exposure to the elements (weathering). Patina also refers to accumulated changes in surface texture and colour that result from normal use of an object such as a coin or a piece of furniture over time. / Patinas are restricted to exposed surfaces and are fragile (that is, they can flake off). One reason bronze is so highly valued in statuary is that its patina protects or passivates it against further corrosion. This natural patina is solid and seldom shows a tendency to flake. Brass is also resistant to corrosion, but it is, in the long run, not as attractive since local pitting shows against the shiny background. / source: Wikepedia Dictionary :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patina credits: / MJRANUM for the torso / water and textures (photographs and digital paintings) by yours truly. © 2009 jokiargu creations / All rights rederved
I created this for What is Hell Really Like? Challenge in the Unconventional Artistry Group but I have a suspicion it isn’t er…..unconventional enough so I may not submit it. But after being sick lately I just didn’t feel like spending a lot of time thinking about death and hell and suffering, you know? So I went in another direction. At any rate, it’s a more light-hearted look at “Hell” — from the point of view of someone who appreciates grayscale, but LIVES in color! / / Fractal rendered in Oxidizer and edited in Photoshop Elements 3.
This is the original render of the fractal I exsanguinated to make Hell is Life Without Colors / Syd Baker asked what its colors were if it had any to begin with. There was another version in pastels but I overwrote it. I do love this one a lot and I’m glad it didn’t disappear. By the way, I always name my fractals befroe I render them and this was “Blood Splatter” from the very beginning. It actually looks more like an arterial spray… / /
Well, something has to keep everything cool… /
The base image is a detail from an old brass and copper jardiniere (which is only 4 inches in diameter). I added a texture layer and did some painting. Photoshop Elements 3. /
