Patina (ˈpa tə nə) is a film on the surface of bronze or similar metals (produced by oxidation over a long period); a sheen on wooden furniture produced by age, wear, and polishing; or any such acquired change of a surface through age and exposure. On metal, patina is a coating of various chemical compounds such as oxides or carbonates formed on the surface during exposure to the elements (weathering). Patina also refers to accumulated changes in surface texture and colour that result from normal use of an object such as a coin or a piece of furniture over time. / Patinas are restricted to exposed surfaces and are fragile (that is, they can flake off). One reason bronze is so highly valued in statuary is that its patina protects or passivates it against further corrosion. This natural patina is solid and seldom shows a tendency to flake. Brass is also resistant to corrosion, but it is, in the long run, not as attractive since local pitting shows against the shiny background. / source: Wikepedia Dictionary :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patina credits: / MJRANUM for the torso / water and textures (photographs and digital paintings) by yours truly. © 2009 jokiargu creations / All rights rederved

  • Marble of the Universe
    by robpixaday

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Here’s the Marble that will roll into the Center of Time and try to knock us all out. It’ll tumble toward Infinity and then stop. Just like that. Maybe we’ll be in its path and maybe we won’t. Place your bets now! / / Image rendered in Oxidizer and edited in Corel Painter Essentials 2 and Photoshop Elements 3. / /

Fractal rendered in Oxidizer and edited in Photoshop Elements 3. / /

  • Mixed mediums: Acrylic, rice paper, linen thread, pigment powder on canvas. / Size: 613×917 x 42 mm; Framed size: 970×665 x 50 mm Concept: Practically stitches bind, attach, and connect materials and/or surfaces together and is a metaphor for human bonding. The stitch becomes the ‘thread’, linking and connecting to the human psyche. Using a needle and thread by hand to stitch is a slow, methodical and sometimes painful process, of pushing and pulling through materials. The process reveals the two sides (dual nature) and the in-between to this affair. / / Abstractly worked, the stitch is used metaphorically for relaying energies and relationship formations. / Spirit Matter Cosmos abstractly references and resonates concepts of duality, the conscious and unconscious, complexity and simplicity, the spirit and alchemy of ‘relationships’ (blood & gold symbolism), transitory formations (the faded) illusions to connections and perceived realities. Always within, is the ‘spirit’, the centre, a voice of wisdom that guides and directs us in and through and beyond the ‘matter’. US$3.99–US$91.20

  • The Center Cannot Hold
    by robpixaday

    US$3.99–US$91.20

“Contrary to what we know about the Earth’s core, the inner mystery of our planet will be revealed as fire...fire without air, fire without fuel, fire without end. When the Earth erupts, fractured; the flames will escape molten lava and iron and the rocks of eternity, and consume us. When, my friends? Not soon. But someday. Someday....” Haaaa….just a little scifi-ish muttering for an early morning (this is an excerpt from a novel I’m working on!!). I created the image as a fractal (Oxidizer) and then edited it in GIMP. Woooohooo!!! I can HEAR the tectonic plates smash and the flames crackle behind them!! / (I hope Yeats doesn’t mind that I borrowed the title) / /

  • Wormhub Traffic Light
    by robpixaday

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Traffic through wormholes must be regulated: fractals provide colorful and dramatic ways of doing that. This traffic light is 2000 pixofarbs in width by 4000 pixofarbs in length and cost the inhabitants who reside near the Wormhub 17 quintillion glecks to install. / Four fractals rendered in Oxidizer and edited in Photoshop Elements 3. / /

  • Fractal rendered in XaoS and edited in Photoshop Elements 3. Wooohoooooooo!!! I made flowers!!! Well, sort of flowers. Fractal flowers. Morning glories? YAY!! / The only problem is that this image is TINY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t know how to make XaoS ones large. Well, I’ll figure it out later. For now: Many thanks to LjMaxx and / zooreka for their patience and guidance in this journey! /

  • This is the original render of the fractal I exsanguinated to make Hell is Life Without Colors / Syd Baker asked what its colors were if it had any to begin with. There was another version in pastels but I overwrote it. I do love this one a lot and I’m glad it didn’t disappear. By the way, I always name my fractals befroe I render them and this was “Blood Splatter” from the very beginning. It actually looks more like an arterial spray… / /

  • They obscure truth and beauty; they confound and repel. But they are translucent and without form. We can look behind the curtains of time at what has gone before and what will be. Pull back the curtains and see. • Jamfish Fractal
    by robpixaday

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Related to jellyfish, the jamfish live undersea. But jamfish reside in the very darkest of the burnt-toast dark places and are never ever seen by human eyes. Until now. Fractal rendered in Oxidizer. /

  • Bacillus Fractaliosis
    by robpixaday

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Staining Bacillus Fractaliosis is a two-step procedure, even when things work well. Most of the time, however, the slide preparation is complicated by incredible mobility of the organisms and if you don’t take good care and follow Good Laboratory Practices, you’ll find your Petri dish filled with suppurating toxic agar populated with violent angry Fractaliosi. Proceed with caution! Fractal rendered in Oxidizer and stained….er….edited in Photoshop Elements 3 and GIMP. /

  • Hell is Life Without Colors
    by robpixaday

    US$3.99–US$91.20

I created this for What is Hell Really Like? Challenge in the Unconventional Artistry Group but I have a suspicion it isn’t er…..unconventional enough so I may not submit it. But after being sick lately I just didn’t feel like spending a lot of time thinking about death and hell and suffering, you know? So I went in another direction. At any rate, it’s a more light-hearted look at “Hell” — from the point of view of someone who appreciates grayscale, but LIVES in color! / / Fractal rendered in Oxidizer and edited in Photoshop Elements 3.

  • And there’d be more of them! Yay for colors! /
