  • A little over exposed on these… no pun intended >.<

  • A photo of my wife that looks nothing ike her. No digital manipulation was used on this image.

  • Whilst trying to use a longer exposure to create a haze in the water I misjudged and overexposed, leaving only the framework of the pier visible. Although a complete accident, I enjoy the effect, and it quite accurately reflects the weather that day!

At last nights clubmeeting i noticed that the judge was noticing and pointing out ares of blowout or overexposure on some of the images, ie top of arms, top of dog etc. This problem can be overcome in most cases. It is easy to point out these areas and say shorten your exposure but at this point it is too late and take the shot again. If a problem features throughout a series of pictures on the night the time should be taken to part with knowledge and experience. / So here are a couple of solutions. / - change display on camera to show histogram and check after shot is taken and look for clipping in highlights and shadows / - shoot in raw, this allows for better exposure and temperature adjustments once downloaded / - do all basic adjustments in the raw format as the computer has more embedded data and detail to work with than in compressed formats / - keep your raw files so you can go back any time and have another go

  • Random day in Belgrade, people hurrying (who knows where) and just another photo opportunity. A couple of legs in the frame, marble pavement, deliberate overexposure and resulting photo that is somehow dear to me. / As for you “point and shooters” out there, it was taken with a small FujiFilm FinePix F30 Zoom compact camera, so looks like I am one of you, too… :)

  • Maglev train station in Shanghai, China. Overexposure on purpose creates the illusion of motion in a completely frozen moment.

  • The horses were thirsty after someone forgot to water them in the morning… when we filled the trough, they got pretty pushy with each other. In the panic I hurried to get the shot, unfortunately the exposure turned out way too high…but in the end I actually liked the dramatic brightness and kept it the way it is. *Note the horse on the far left reaching to bite the one in the middle!

  • This photo was taken late afternoon in a street in Wagga Wagga, NSW. As it was approaching dark I overexposed quite a bit, however, the result was pleasing as it doesn’t look quite real but looks good – well I think. There was no retouching or software used. This photo is straight from the camera.

  • Nikon D80, ISO 100 28-300@100mm My first try at overexposing a shot on purpose using photoshop. Constructive comments appreciated.
