My question is.. How do you feel and react when you know that your marriage is over? I personally can’t imagine the feeling but I have seen my best friend and model go through it first hand and it’s a total feeling of loss, hopelessness and sadness. My apologies for being melancholy but this is the unfortunate reality for many couples. Again, thank you to my beautiful model and friend…...
In July 2007 I did my first ever snow shoe walk from Falls Creek out past Pretty Valley to Tawonga Huts and the Jaithmathang’s then over Mt Fainter and down to Bogong Village. The downhills aren’t as fun as my crossies but the uphill and flats are a dream much easier manoeuvrability for photography too. Great trip had some good weather (the following day was a whiteout). Love the way f22 on my fisheye lens creates this sunburst effect, doesn’t work very well with a dark foreground but with this highly reflective snow it’s a winner. Just after I completed this trip I got a phone call from someone who had heard about an exhibition I did earlier in the year and who had specifically wanted a picture of the Victorian Alps, they ended up buying a 12”x30” framed print of this one. Oils on canvas. Cape Town, the city of my birth. Dusk falling and the lights are coming on under the shadow of the great mountain where I was born. When the ‘table cloth’ forms over the mountain, Van Hunks and the old devil are smoking their pipes like crazy in a never ending competition and the cloth of cloud falls over the table like a waterfall. (old legend). The sky is clear over the mountain here today and the sea becomes black and purple as the light shifts. The view is from Blauwberg Strand. Original oil painting is 30×40 inches. I went to the USAFA to look for deer and elk. The animals got away but I did get some great views of the setting sun. Look closely and you will see that the moon and 2 stars have appeared. They are actually the moon, Jupiter and Venus. /

Starry Night over the Rhone (September 1888) is one of Vincent van Gogh’s paintings of Arles at night; I Did my homage / version 24 by 36 inches on stretched canvas in Acrylic ..done with my own sensibilities while keeping the original painting very much in my thoughts..I Hold Vincent in the highest esteem , go to you tube and listen to ” Starry Starry night ” sometime.. Now I understand what you tried to say to me, / How you suffered for your sanity, / How you tried to set them free. / They would not listen, they did not know how. / Perhaps they’ll listen now. Starry, starry night. / Flaming flowers that brightly blaze, / Swirling clouds in violet haze, / Reflect in Vincent’s eyes of china blue. / Colors changing hue, morning field of amber grain, / Weathered faces lined in pain, / Are soothed beneath the artist’s loving hand. Now I understand what you tried to say to me, / How you suffered for your sanity, / How you tried to set them free. / They would not listen, they did not know how. / Perhaps they’ll listen now. For they could not love you, / But still your love was true. / And when no hope was left in sight / On that starry, starry night, / You took your life, as lovers often do. / But I could have told you, Vincent, / This world was never meant for one / As beautiful as you. Starry, starry night. / Portraits hung in empty halls, / Frameless head on nameless walls, / With eyes that watch the world and can’t forget. / Like the strangers that you’ve met, / The ragged men in the ragged clothes, / The silver thorn of bloody rose, / Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow. Now I think I know what you tried to say to me, / How you suffered for your sanity, / How you tried to set them free. / They would not listen, they’re not listening still. / Perhaps they never will...

Somewhere Over the Rainbow….. / In this work I started with the vision of a Grass Widow, patiently waiting for her husband to return but somewhere along the line, it came to represent those of us who take a backseat to life. Fear keeps us rooted in our comfort zones even though we are tired and bored in our surroundings. / / We’re afraid if we chase the rainbow the sky will crumble, open up and bad things happen ….so we sit back and watch life play out like a movie on a big screen.. What happens when the movie comes to the end of the reel…are we left with a room full of regrets? if you are interested in the etymology of a Grass widow see Professor Anatoly Liberman / The last in the Widows series….The Grass Widow / Also in the series; / The Black Widow / The Merry Widow Available as an art print, card, canvas, mounted print and poster. / Image copyright © 2009 Shanina Conway. / Copying and displaying or redistribution of this image without permission from the artist is strictly prohibited

Finally I got some luck with the Full Moonset and no clouds.. Not a cloud in sight this morning, and the moon was beautiful setting over Mount Cooroy. I have been doing tests lately with composition of moonrises and moonsets. If you take the shot with a massive zoom, from a few 1000 metres away, the moon is beautiful and large! I have learnt to throw away the 10mm lens for these kind of shots! Moonset of Thursday, 6th August, 2009 – 6:04am. Over the Noosa River, Noosa Sound, looking over Noosaville. Thanks for dropping in your viewings, comments and if i’m lucky FAVOURITES are greatly appreciated. The Queen Victoria Building is currently undergoing a facelift at $37.5 / million , one of the features is upgrading the paintwork to victorian period colours. This image shows “The Grand Staircase* of Sydneys Grand Queen Victoria Building, and is an example of how grand old buildings can be restored and still be used as money making concerns, in this case a grand shopping experience The Queen Victoria Building, now affectionately known as the QVB, was designed by George McRae and completed in 1898, replacing the original Sydney markets on the site. Built as a monument to the long reigning monarch, construction took place in dire times, as Sydney was in a severe recession. The elaborate Romanesque architecture was specially planned for the grand building so the Government could employ many out-of-work craftsmen – stonemasons, plasterers, and stained window artists – in a worthwhile project. Originally, a concert hall, coffee shops, offices, showrooms, warehouses and a wide variety of tradespeople, such as tailors, mercers, hairdressers and florists, were accommodated. The QVB fills an entire city block bound by George, Market, York and Druitt Streets. The dominant feature is the mighty centre dome, consisting of an inner glass dome and an exterior copper- sheathed dome. Glorious stained glass windows and splendid / architecture endure throughout the building and an original 19th century staircase sits alongside the dome. Every detail has been faithfully restored, including arches, pillars, balustrades and the intricate tiled floors thus maintaining the integrity of the building. / The visual message of Sydney’s coat of arms, on the cartwheel stained glass window, is that the beehive depicts business, the sailing ship – trade, and the dolphins – the harbour. Panel 1, on the left hand side, represents the Council of the City of Sydney, and symbols of architecture, while the letters I.G.B. on panel 3, on the right, represent Ipoh Gardens Berhad, the Malaysian company who restored the QVB. The symbols are of property developers – the builders. The bottom central panel represents the heraldic symbol of a finished building and the joining of two hands denotes the fusing of two cultures. There are many interesting and charming exhibitions and attractions throughout the building, along with portraits of the Queen. There is also a letter from Queen Elizabeth II to the Citizens of Sydney to be opened and read by the Lord Mayor of Sydney in the year 2085. Outside the QVB, on Town Hall Place, facing The Town Hall are the Royal Wishing Well and Queen Victoria’s statue.
