A few people have asked me to upload some of the things i do outside the bubble. So now seems as good a time as any. Besides this way i can take a little break from making stuff…and yet feel like im still doing stuff. If you don’t already know i do a fair bit of community art projects, festivals and stuff like that. This is not all the projects or anything…just what happens to be floating round on this computer with me at the moment. So enjoy! I Know my Place – 2007 / I know i have mentioned this before… / / so if you want to know more see here Transit – 2007 (Part of Making Space) / / Transit was a travelling gallery created by six artists from West10 a gallery in Geelong ran by the Geelong Arts Alliance. The Artists were; Julie Churchill, Mark Cuthbertson(Construction), David Dellafiora, Sue Hartigan, Leanne Stein and Glen Smith. Exploring similar notions to those of fluxus and situationist artists, it travelled around setting up quickly doing performances, screening films, handing out misinformation and doing site specific actions. The white infatable in the postcard above actually exploded! This project was extremely freeform…or rather chaotic. Permits, public liability and the likes were ignored so the performances were random and short lived. Sites included industrial estates through to ACCA where the inflatable interacted with the Vault. / 2frontup – 7days / This was an artists residency (Allan’s Walk Artists Run Space, Bendigo) i did a few years back with another artist David Dellafiora. Artists that worked in ARI from each state of Aus were invited to bendigo for seven days to create a body of work and create an exhibition. Our work was performance based…combined with creating an artists edition as a momento of the actions. This was both a really fun project but also very intense due to the time limitations. Seven days…one major action a day…documentation…an exhibition to set up…an edition of 49 artists boxes…an artists talk…and an opening to set up and attend. I think i didnt do any art for about two months afterwards! / Pic one is…Monumental Cleansing for the Empire action…and two is the artists edition we made. Subculture / This was a GAA exhibition in 04…methinks at the Mill Markets basement in North Geelong. Forteen artists creating site specific artworks. Mine was about the poor sods who worked in the wool treatment basement for forty odd years who had signed their names on the beams. I felt sorry for them never seening the sky and all…till i realised in my job i only stared at a computer…windows…or a faux window with a virtual picture of a sky and landscape. Not much different really…and a wee bit sad! Oh…its a fake cloud by the way! / bored yet??? Artists Republics of Geelong 2004 & Art Vendor / / Nine artists…nine laneways…nightmare beauracratic first project that i coordinated. / My lane i let no one into…covered in turf…and made stitched up lips street signs. Obviously…about the asylum seekers issue. Well i hoped it was obvious! Also, as part of it, just thought you might like to see this, we…the GAA which i was the chair of at the time created an artist vending machine(Three actually!). They still float around at festivals on occassions. Heres my postcard documentation of it. Two one dollar coins see you get a random original artwork. / Nightwatch / Shop front installations in vacant shops round Geelong by the GAA. This ones mine…Artificial Ingredients. Petry dished…Coke cells dividing…saturation Advertising! / Commonwealth Games – Geelong Live Site Multimedia Show – Art Insert / Something different…kinda a big slideshow…3oo odd images from the locals…glitchy effects to break it up…and a very cool sound artist to work with…Stephen Oakes. fun fun fun… / Fast – 24 Hour Art / / This project was fluxus through and through. Over the course of a year the GAA did a bunch of happenings. They lasted between 6 minutes and 24 hours. The best one i think was a piece about public liability issues where the artist wrapped the local public art in bubble wrap and put up fake warning signs. My one with dave again was a project where we created art on the spot at a market based on the products we could buy at the market. All a bit of fun really and alot silly. Wasnt actually that well recieved…we got to get the good stuff early before the general public got in. And they wanted it…not our art! ;-P Geez…that was way too long… / Hmm…ok if your still here you really are a glutton for punishment. Anyway, hope that shows people some of the different stuff i do outside of here! laterdays! / G

In a few hours, I’ll wake up, say goodbye to my pugaliers, and head to Melbourne Airport with Kate for 3 weeks floating around Europe, away from the ‘Bubble — London, Paris and then over to RailsConf in Berlin to get my geek on. I’m never all that good at taking time off, but the idea of taking three weeks away from that little building in Fitzroy after nearly 11 months “going nuts” feels really strange right now. They’ll be utterly fine without me of course. So, I’ll be adding even less art and tees to my portfolio for the next few weeks, spending even less time in the forums, but I’ll check in when I can, so keep the good stuff coming!

I am being pushed – and yet pushing myself at the same time. The rules are … / 100 ISO only! / No more auto white balance / NO POST PROCESSING whatsoever / No Chimping and / compose the shot first (no zooming in and out to get the shot) I am sure it will be ok after a couple of weeks and I can certainly see the benefit. . . just seems mighty daunting now. Are we relying on the digital age we are in to much?

It’s night, when one needs love like blood, / And a city is an iceberg of lights, / The air throbs, roars like a distant bear. / The finger of one’s mind, in indolence, / Retraces the schema of old streets / Their excess of purpose – redundant as / Antique newsprint. I like to sense this imprint of / Bustling, forgotten hands: the surfeit of detail in a frosted / Frieze, or else a silent mausoleum in its zone; / With dolls’ house windows that will not surrender / My own reflection. I like it all. As a child, I wore my life like a nettle / I looked out with blistery eyes / As if a scourge (as if one scourged) / Not wanting to be found. / Of late, I’m more resilient. / I watch this house of mine fall dark: / I draw it round me. / Outside, perhaps, the crumbs of friendships / Of issues grown pale – or rather, simply remote. / / I remember now. It happened one afternoon. / There’d been a downpour. Briefly, the clouds parted, / And in the blaze, the city shone as if pearl / For a moment, as if cleansed – as if life itself had been / Cleansed – all purged, all forgiven. For a moment, I felt / Glad to share what was soundless, timeless: / Proud to be there. It is my shame to be different / But I don’t know how to live in bad faith. / I wish I could walk among the rest, be one of the rest / Find my solace in a seamless absurdity, but rather, / Those shackles have slipped away. For me, you see, / There is a dissonance in one’s heart, if one has purpose: / A tension, or a null that must be fed: / One needs to have some private absurd – / Some folly dimly grasped, giving one the appetite to carry on; / There’s nothing left, once vision and apathy melt together, resigning one, / In lean despotic light, to be an outsider at life’s busy midnight feast. / Spare me the sun, this glazed horizon, this eternal present. / How frivolous is life, if shorn of meaning / How short a life, how long a day. Stephen Jackson January 2005

I am back on the air after we lost power in southwestern Ohio due to the remnants of Hurricane Ike. We had sustained winds of up to 74 mph for over four hours on Sunday afternoon. Our power went out around 3:00 PM on Sunday the utility company restored power to our area yesterday at 4:00 PM (Tuesday). I cannot imagine all those poor people in Texas having to deal with the destruction of Ike. Susie (jpryce)

Under the advice of some of other photographers around here, I took a jaunt around town to see what I could find to photograph. I’m glad I took their advice! I found some great stuff that I would’ve normally overlooked before. I photographed weeds, rocks, chairs, dumpsters, and some friendly dogs that I happened to park my car by. I had been in a slump, photographically, because A. I’m still new with my D-SLR camera and B. It’s winter. Today was beautiful and I didn’t care if I got some bad shots. Poo to perfection and I was just going to see what I got. And I got some good stuff! I posted some of the best ones here on RedBubble, and you can see more here: Around Akron

It all started on December 20th,2007. Larry Smith sat on the edge of his bed with his 2 best friends sitting on the floor.”Man,Larry i can`t wait for christmas.I think my mom and dad is getting me that XBOX 360 i`ve been bragging about all week.” One of the boys said to Larry. “Yeah, i think my moms gonna get me that Dirt Bike and Four Wheller i`ve been asking for.” Another boy said. ” What happened to you guys holiday spirit.Christmas is suppose to be about Santa Clause and the egg nog that you drink at parties.” Larry told them.”Come on Larry you know we stopped believing in santa clause a long time ago.” Travis said. “Yeah Larry you need to listen to Travis. He may not always be right but i agree with him on this one. All i look forward to on Christmas is the presents and spending time with my mom. It`s the only time of the year she can spends all day with me instead of just 10 lowsy minutes” Andy said.” You guys are probably right. But is that all you really look forward to on Christmas?” Larry asked”No.Not really i also like the parties i go to and seeing people i never met before.”Travis answered.Bright and early the next morning Larry got up made him some breakfast set at the family table and thought about what his friends said. Then a knock came on the door.Larrys big sister Jena rushed downstairs and pushed larry so she could get to the door first.”Who is it!!!!” Hollard Jena.”Travis and Andy can Larry come out?”They asked.Jena unlocked the door and said….... “It`s your dorkish friends”. As they walked in they looked at Larry in a unfamilair way.”What”. Larry said spitting his ceral everywhere.”Come on dude don`t tell me you forgot. It`s saturday morning for petes sake why are you still in your PJ`s we are suppose to be out shopping for gifts for our moms and dads. But in Andys case mom.”Said Travis.”Oh. Yeah right the shopping.Sorry you guys i can`t make it.”Larry said.”Why not you`ve been saying you would be free on today. You even made a promise that you would`nt bail out at the last minute.” Andy said.”Yeah i know but.Ummmmmmmmmmm.I…I.I have to help Jena get ready for her prom tonight.” Larry said taking a big spoonful of ceral in his mouth.”What. My prom is`nt until a month from now.Look you guys Larrys lying he does`nt have anything to do but sleep. He was up all night doing some homework.” Jena said.”But we didn`t have any homework!”Travis yelled.Jena ran upstairs as fast as she could.”Look Larry you are my best friend but if you keep continuing to lie like this.We won`t have a friendship! Now are you going or not?”Travis asked angerly.”Alright im going.Give me 5 minutes to change.”Said Larry.”Alright 5 minutes or else.”Andy said.”Don`t push it And”.Said Larry. As Larry ran upstairs Jena looked at him and started laughing.Larry wondered why she was laughing but he didn`t ask he just looked at her and ran in his room. After larry put on his stuff he ran outside to Andy and Travis.”Right on time too.”Travis said. As they left off the porch they ran into 2 old enemies.Alex Matason and Bug Brain.”Well,well,well.Look what the cat spit out.Alex Matason and Bug Brain.” Said Travis.”Aw Travis i think you better leave them alone they got a dog.”Said Larry.”Stop being such a wimp Lar they are not gonna do anything with those dogs.”Said Andy.”I think you need to listen to your boy for you get wiped on my by me and my homeboy.Oh and lil Sparky here to.” Said Bug Brain.”Like i said before you ain`t do nothing with that mutt or your homeboy.”Travis said to Bug Brain. “Didn`t we teach you last that you should mind who you talk to.”Said Andy. “What punk i`ll whip your tail.”Said Bug Brain.”Sick`em boy”.Then the boys started to run with the dog on there tail and the other 2 boys behind them. They hit the corner and lost Bug Brain,Alex, and the dog.”Man that was a close one when are you two gonna learn how to keep your big mouths shut you almost got us killed today. Didn`t you see how big that dog was.He could have eaten us alive.” Said Larry.”Stop your worries he was just trying to scare us.” Said Travis.”Well it worked thanks to you and Andy.By the way where is Andy.”Asked Larry. Then they heard a scream. It was Andy they had caught him and the dog was eating him up.”Help, help.Help me Travis,Larry help!”yelled Andy.”Leave him alone he didn`t do anything to you or that mingy mutt.”Said Travis.”You know you got alot of nerve talking to me and my boy like that.” Said Alex.”You aint gonna do nuttin punk about it”said Travis.”Yeah aight.Try me.”Said Alex.Alex threw the first punch and bam. Travis was out like a light. When he woke up he was in a wheelchair in the middle of a hospital.”Wha…what happened?”asked Travis.”Alex threw the first punch and you went down like that.”Larry said snapping his fingers. That can`t be possible he was just right here.”Said Travis.”Yeah hours ago.”Said Andy.”Andy buddy are you alright all i remember was that Alex and Bug Brain`s dog was eating you up and bitting you with his visus teeth.”Said Travis sadly.”Yeah im okay thanks to you and Larry.Larry was amazing after you and Bug Brain got into it and he knoced you out.Larry jumped in it and took on both of them. But he got knocked down. And had a slittyly sprained arm.But thats okay he just has to rest for the next 2 weeks or so.”Andy said.”Man what are we gonna tell our parents?”Asked Travis scared.”I don`t know about you but me and Andy already called our moms and dads explaining what had happened.”Said Larry.”What.Ya`ll just going to let me hang like that.Ya`ll suppose to be my boys we look after each other.”Travis told them.”I know,i know,i know. But this time we couldn`t bail you out you made your own desicion nobody asked you to help me.”Said Andy.”Hold up, hold up,hold up. My son and I had decided we need to have an adventure. We decided to go to the Indianapolis Cchildren’s Musuem. But it was Spring break for a lot of the schools around the city. So, the children’s Musuem was packed. We decided we would try the State musuem. Hardly anyone there, and we decided we would go there. We explored the musuem for a couple of hours. And what is really cool about the State Musuem is that it is on the Canal downtown. After exploring all the floors of the musuem, we wandered outside and walked around the canal for a little bit. While walking there on the canal, we watched all of the bicyclers, and paddle boats. It was a sunny day, and everyone was out to enjoy it. / As we walked by a couple sitting on a bench, he stooped us and asked us to take there picture. I said sure, no problem. I took two pictures, and started to hand him back the camera, asking him if that would work. He said no, could I take a couple more . As he said this, he was reaching in his pocket and pulling out a ring, and asked his girlfriend to marry him. I took probably about ten to twelve pictures for them. It was quite a nice day.
