  • I spent several hours waiting to get a few unique shots of these cygnets flocking around Mom. When one climbed up on her back, my thoughts turned to “now, if only she would turn just a little more sidways. Fortunately, I managed to get a few shots like this one while the light was right because she continued swimming further away without ever turning much. The nature of wildlife photography often necessitates that you take the best you can get. I had originally posted this under the title “Free Ride”, but when my daughter saw Free Ride, she said it reminded her of herself with her clan. She has three boys and one girl (the youngest who she fondly refers to as her princess). They have a summer home up in Northern Wisconsin and are very much into nature, hiking, and boating. She asked if I could blow it up and frame it for her wall up in the summer home with the title “Family Outing”.

  • “Do fairies exist?” Ophelia asks the flowers around her, hoping that she will spot one amongst the flowers soon. The flowers couldn’t answer her because they have never seen one before. Undeterered, Ophelia set her sights on the next flower kingdom ahead of her. She will continue to journey on her quest in answer to that burning question in her heart. / / You can view and buy my other “In Search For Fairies” at my Zazzle Gallery:

  • A great turnout of Redbubblers met at Gladesville Mental Hospital this morning for some photo opportunities – this is a little nook in one of the delapidated buildings. Thanks to Philip and Kaz for organising the day. Gladesville Mental Hospital (formerly Tarban Creek Lunatic Asylum) operated from c.1838- Surviving records cover c.1822-1985 In 1838 the lunatic asylum was moved from Liverpool to Tarban Creek, Gladesville and the first patients were transferred from Liverpool Asylum and the Female Factory, Parramatta. It accepted patients from Victoria up until 1848 when the Yarra Bend asylum was opened. By the mid 1960s the institution was known simply as Gladesville Hospital. In 1993 premises at Gladesville Hospital and Macquarie Hospital were revoked as hospitals, and were amalgamated to form the Gladesville Macquarie Hospital. • Capture on Venice beach ,Florida, there were a big flock of the pelicans about 15 total, and I couldn’t fit them all in the frame. / The Brown Pelican is the smallest of the eight species of pelican. Pesticides like DDT and dieldrin threatened its future in the southeast United States and California in the early 1970s. Pesticides also threatened the pelican population in Florida in this period. DDT usage was eliminated in Florida and the rest of the country. Along with the American White Pelican, the Brown Pelican is protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918. Normal pelicans can live more than 30 years. / Canon 5D mark ll / canon 400mm / ISO 200 / 1/640 f/ 7.1 cp filter Featured on the homepage on 8/6/09 / !!
