This dried-up tree seemed to be stretching, yearning towards the water-laden heavens, desperate for a quenching rain shower. This photo was taken in North Carolina’s Outer Banks, at Jockeys Ridge Sand Dunes. It’s only a few minutes from where the first flight took off at Wright Memorial Park. Jockeys Ridge is a state park and also the practice location of a hang-gliding school. We saw several gliders on the ground that day, but nobody gliding. The sand was burning-hot and biting on our feet as we explored.
This was taken in North Carolina this summer. I like the moody, stormish feel of it. This shot can be seen in my calendar Everyday Mysteries. Take a look!
It’s part calendar, part storybook! Each month features a short (very kid friendly) story of one of SpaceKid’s many adventures throughout the cosmos. Wacky aliens, even wackier planets, and wacky situations that make the wacky-meter go completely bonkers! / I can almost guarantee that you’ll not find a calendar quite like this one anywhere…ever. / (I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing exactly, but it’s the truth.)
This is a PS rework or my Jockey’s Ridge Dunes shot in the Outer Banks, NC over a year ago. / Hey Angel!!! I finally joined the group!!
Shot captured early morning in Nags Head, North Carolina. (Outer Banks) Some more practice with the manual settings.
Fractal art. In a galaxy way, way out there the starship FFF Incendia is enjoying the light show in the outer limits. This fractal is two fractal layers. The background was rendered in Apophysis and the FFF Incendia was rendered in Incendia. / © Dave Moilanen

Another early morning walk with the dog… As I was trapsing through the dark woods to get to this secluded spot, I reassured myself that the dog would scare off any large beasts. And when the dark woods got darker when my flashlight burnt out, I reassured myself that my car would indicate to searchers that I was indeed in this forest. No need to worry… The Island of Newfoundland, just off the east coast of Canada. As is. Canon PowerShot S5 IS / Tv (Shutter Speed) 1/8 / Av (Aperture Value) 8.0 / ISO Speed 80

As we look at the scene before us, we see many lights in the sky. / And since man first walked upon this Earth, he as always wondered what they were, those lights in the night sky. / Has he became more aware through technological advances, he sort of understood what they could be. / And even to this day he still wonders, what hides in the great blue yonder. It draws us forever to explore the vast unseen, we know the substance of it, its there before our eyes. / But what do those lights in the sky really hide from our eyes. They hide the….... Substance – of things not seen This is my entry into the challenge ” The Substance of things not seen” And of course for me it would be about the void beyond this Earth. And featured in *First Things / and Images & Ideas
In the far northern hemisphere of Saturn’s moon Titan, lies the future city of Ringsview. I say future city because this will not be built until man decides there is more to life than this small planet. That beyond our atmosphere lies our future Of course to do that, humanity as first to put an end to war, and step into the future with one mind, as one people. / To take the human race to the stars, to explore the lights we have looked at in the heavens for thousands of years. Art over the centuries as boldly gone where no art as gone before! Art as evolved with leaps and bounds, it as crossed a great many mediums. And it had to happen, here we have the planet Epsilon-Epsilon. The planet was purchased by one individual for the sole purpose of creating a work of art. The planet as thousands of cities and towns, all built as different architectual art forms, they are not populated, in fact there are no beings that live on the whole planet. / There is a reception center on the largest moon, the “tours” can take anywhere from 1 to 10 years to complete. The artist know as *Alienvisitor plans to purchase the entire solar system and all 13 of its planets, so one day the system itself will become the art form. This is but a small sample of said art…...the city of Flight, the architecture here is based on but not exact of his *Cities in Flight Series. Featured in Images & Ideas Group 25/07/09
The edge of never as always being a mixture of many things from across time and space. / So its only right that somebeing should open a bistro dedicated to the gods of ancient Egypt. / For do we really know anything about these same ancient gods, is not all we know really just conjecture. / And here at the very edge of never, will our questions will be answered…..probably not. / But still’ enjoy the moment, step through this doorway to a bistro in Space & Time…................at the edge of Never. / The food may not even be recognizable, but nothing ventured nothing…..... Have you ever wondered what sights await far from the shores of Earth. / Out beyond our Milky Way, out there beneath distant suns. This is what I think of when I write my stories for my images, for I see in my minds eye the wonders that lie beneath those suns. And with those thoughts try to describe their majesty. / Its really an incredible view and my words fall short, yet they await…............... / Out there on the very edge of a galaxy, far, far, far, away.
The river Liese wends her way to the Darkwind Sea in the northlands of Galrath. / On her way she passes many lands, but by far the strangest is the forbidding Darkling Wood. / Liese is a swift river with many rapids and falls, yet in the 300 miles through the Wood her angry waters are almost deathly calm. / When running the river one must stay in the very center of the stream, this a hard thing to do, for the currents try to pull the boat to shore. / An untold number of beings have been lost in the passage, for the Darkling Wood holds many secrets, and a great many souls. At least this is what legends, myths and stories tell. And when running the river under the great moon Rakanoth and her dark child Shadow, it is very easy to believe these myths, whether they be fact or fiction. And the entity of the Darkling Wood plays many tricks with the mind. This is a scene from the 2341 film ” Worlds of the Celts “ As with all my work its best viewed in ZOOM mode
Tribute to a brilliant 80s Aussie film made in Richmond, Victoria called Dogs in Space and to Laika… the little space dog who sacrificed his life for the Russians and their fight to win the space race. ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦ The first living creature allegedly to be sent into space aboard the Russian spacecraft Sputnik 2 was a dog named Laika. Laika was a stray found wandering the streets of Moscow. The flight was launched November 3, 1957. Laika is a Russian word for “dog”. It is said that before the launch, one of the scientists took Laika home to play with his children. In a book chronicling the story of Soviet space medicine, Dr. Vladimir Yazdovsky wrote, “I wanted to do something nice for her: She had so little time left to live. Laika died during the flight. Her remains burnt up in the atmosphere on April 14, 1958. Although advertised as another example of the superiority of the Soviet system, Laika’s mission also brought a few unintended results. In the West, Sputnik 2 renewed the debate over the treatment of animals, while in the U.S.S.R., the flight was widely ridiculed by ordinary citizens as propaganda.
In the histories of ancient lighthouses a number stand out more than others, such is the light “Qualar’s Sun” on the northern coast of Santo. Built in the 2nd century by cosmo-technician Jolas Qualar, it was a marvel of the age. / Qualar used solar energy from the second sun he created in the night sky to power the disc that seemed to float above the bronze tower. The light itself could be seen from the moon and even ships entering the system knew instantly where the planet Nippseen spun in relation to the other planets and satellites in the system. / Of course there always seem to be a flaws in great works, the flaw in this one came about when Qualar died in a lab. explosion, taking with him the secret of his sun which even then was dimming. The light from the disc continued to glow for about 200 years, and then gradually diminished until finally going dark and no amount of technology as being able to make it work since, although many have tried. / And so here it sits on above the Endless Sea, now its just an oddity, and the sun he created just hangs in space, slowly dying. ‘excerpt from “Ancient Lighthouses of the Milky Way Galaxy” 24th edition
