At Day’s End As the sun goes down over the front range mountains of Denver, Colorado, the Sunflowers turn, in anticipation of the sun coming back up in the morning. Photographed in a field where all you can see for miles and miles is Sunflowers….billions of Sunflowers. A Sunrise in the Wilderness Sunrise captured along Mt Evans, in Colorado. The pines in the background are rare Bristlecome Pines, one of the oldest living things on earth. I just had to pause, in spite of me sucking in the o2 at the elevation, and take a few shots.

Garden Of the Gods Park, outside of Colorado Springs, Colorado, is without a doubt one of my all time favorite places to shoot at….the light there just dances, especially during the golden hours just after sunrise…..Pike’s Peak is in the background, with the wind blowing the snow into the sky. / Thoughts welcomed! And there I stood in the middle of the New Mexican desert, awaiting the sun to come over the peaks of the Sandia’s….my tripod was so cold I couldn’t even touch it, thankfully I had the car behind me running, where I was returning to for some hand warming every 3 minutes. However, it was worth it! It is just so utterly tranquil, not a sound, lost in the vastness of nature….... Thoughts welcomed!

And that is exactly what I did, slowdown, park, get out the tripod, and started shooting away! Often times the most beautiful things are the things which we fail to notice. Life’s little things, like this for example. My intention was to head for the mountains and normally when doing so, I wouldn’t even be paying attention to the sky, let alone stopping to shot it. Well, this time I took some time out so I wouldn’t miss it! Glad I did to, it was downright stunning! No one around, as you can see, just me, the breeze, and the colors of nature. I have always said that there is something about being up at this time of the day….and yeah, there is. Processed in HDR, long exposure using my 4ND and my CPL, let me know what ya think watchers! Cherry Creek Reservoir State Park, outside Denver, Colorado….it’s pretty amazing the tranquility one can find in nature so early on a summer’s morning….and here I sat…on the shoreline, tripod 1/2 in the water, 4ND and my CPL bolted to my 18-70….watching this whole scene play out.. Yeah, talk about a relaxing moment and just a nice time kicking back and unwinding….this was it! And yes that is a Pelican in the water…”a Pelican in Colorado???” you say? Yes, migratory birds….they come up all the way from South America and spend a few months here…wild huh? Why here where there is no Ocean is beyond me, but they call us home for awhile. I will say this—they are without a doubt the most skiddish of any bird I have ever seen….they didn’t cme within 200 feet of me, and when they saw me driving up in my car, from 500 feet away, they turncoated and made way fast lol Well hope ya all like it, let me know what ya think! —-John

A Morning Stroll At the Lake Every now and then we almost miss a shot, and luckily this time I happened to turn around as I was walking back to my car from shooting the sunrise and had this scene greet me. A New Years Sunrise While not a sunrise in the traditional sense of the word, but it sure seemed to be with the sun hiding behind the clouds, back lighting and glowing everything around me in a colorful haze in Moraine Park inside Rocky Mountain National Park. It was nothing but stunning! Quite the way to start and kick off the New Years I think! Processed in Photomatix HDR with 3 RAW files, then output through PSP 10, , shot on my 5D and Minolta 18-200 DT using a Singh-Ray CPL, and then hiding behind the car to shield myself from 80 MPH wind gusts lol The crazy thing is, the haze in the background, is actually from the snow that was falling and whipping around. Well this shot did really well over on deviantART so I thought that I would also share with you all here too. (I honestly wasn’t expecting the 1600 odd favorites it received over there, took me by surprise!) Storm clouds fight with the evening sunset over the Colorado Rockies & Longs Peak. Every now and then I like to get a little artistic with my HDR’s and this is one of those, there is no right, no wrongs when it comes to photography and artistic interpretation, and i realize that not everyone likes that, nor this style, that is fine, I respect that, but I also ask the same of you to respect my creativeness, too! Captured in rural Boulder County, Colorado….let me just say this was honest to God unbelievable to photograph. I had to handhold these shots because of my bum knee and well, the lightning was going crazy right above me. But I managed to get some dang nice shots off. This being one of them. I am really happy with this one, I debated about a square crop, but in the end I figured why the heck not, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right folks?
