  • Slowly life starts in the morning, as the sun rises and stretches out along the Eastern Plains of Colorado…..I have to tell ya all I really am enjoying where I have moved to, out here in the country. The photo-opps are so numerous, it is insane. This one captured right up the road from me, overlooking the E-470 Tollway. I really don’t do much in the way of long exposure, but perhaps it is time I start doing them more often :) Thoughts welcomed! / —John / —-—-—-—-— See more on my website jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. • Here we have a knoll under some beautiful trees and a very special place for love to come together and all things that are grand will flourish in this magical place of love. Here is a slightly altered picture of some trees in the front yard. I removed the house and placed a grass knoll where the normal background would be of the house. But the trees are not altered and if you look close at them you will see that they are heavy in mistletoe.

  • Black Flats at the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve

  • It was not long before dawn and there was an eerie silence around the lake. The lighting was changing by the minute and every photo had different qualities. I ended up choosing this one over the others to process because I really liked the reflection I got in it.

  • First snow this year / Photo made in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands – Oranjepark *Music kiosk in the snow… as if time stood still… * My first snow pic this year – maybe ever … At least, I can’t remember I ever made snow pics, so if I did, they were not worth keeping or remembering… / This one turned out blue by accident really … I had forgotten to reset my white-balance settings. – happy accident. / I did desaturate the blue quite a bit, and did some sharpening on it… No further post-editing :)

  • Late afternoon reflections on Wilson Creek near Morganton, North Carolina. • Braving The Cold Braving The Cold This is, well, the first ‘real’ birding shot I have ever posted here on, I won’t count the Ducks and Geese, and I have to say, it is not often I toot my own horn, but DAMN am I HAPPY how this one came out! If any of you have ever shot a Magpie before, you know how HARD these birds are to expose for! They are a nightmare! Captured in Rocky Mountain National Park on New years Day, this Magpie was sitting there just hanging on in the windy weather and the snow which was whipping around, he looked so cold, but the way he posed made for a wonderful shot. He just watched me with interest, as I started snapping him with my Minolta 75-300D Lens. Shot in RAW on my 5D and converted to B&W using Pog’s Mono Renditionizer, I hope ya all like it as much as I do! / —-John

  • The original castle was built in 1220 for Alexander II as a defence against the Vikings. By the late 13th century it had become a stronghold of the Mackenzies of Kintail (later the Earls of Seaforth). In 1511, the MacRaes, as protectors of the MacKenzies, became the hereditary Constables of the Castle. In 1539 Iain Dubh Matheson, chief of the Clan Matheson died whilst defending the Castle on Eilean Donan island against the Clan MacDonald of Sleat on behalf of the Clan MacRae and Clan MacKenzie. In April 1719 the castle was occupied by Spanish troops attempting to start another Jacobite Rising. The castle was recaptured, and then demolished, by three Royal Navy frigates on 10–13 May 1719. The Spanish troops were defeated a month later at the Battle of Glen Shiel. The castle was restored in the years between 1919 and 1932 by Lt. Col. John MacRae-Gilstrap. The restoration included the construction of an arched bridge to give easier access to the castle. In 1983 The Conchra Charitable Trust was formed by the MacRae family to care for the Castle. A curious distinction is that it has one of two left handed spiral staircases in the UK castles, as the reigning king at the time of building held a sword with his left hand. / Loch Duich and Eilean Donan castle with the Isle of Skye in the distance It is now one of the most photographed monuments in Scotland and a popular venue for weddings and film locations. It has appeared in such films as The Master of Ballantrae (1953)[3], The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (1970), Highlander (1985)[3], Mio in the Land of Faraway (1987), Loch Ness (1996)[3], Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), The World Is Not Enough (1999)[3], Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007), Made of Honor (2007) and in BBC mini series “Oliver’s Travels”. The cover of Secret Garden’s album Dreamcatcher (2000). Eilean Donan is the home of the Clan MacRae. In 2001, the island had a population of just one person. On a clear day it is possible to see the Isle of Skye from the castle. (From Wikipedia)

  • In the past few weeks I was lacking any motivation to go out with my camera and come back with some decent shots. The worst thing was that I didn’t even have an idea what to photograph… On Wednesday I went for a 51km cycling round through the miountains surrounding Innsbruck, and guess what – I came back with one or two ideas for new photos. So yesterday I drove up to the Axamer Lizum, a well know skiing area in winter, but quite forgotten about in summer. so here’s the result, a six shots panorama of the mountain scenery of the Axamer Lizum. the mountains in the pano are (left to right): / Saile (Nockspitze) > Schneiderspitze > Ampferstein > Marchreisenspitze Canon EOS 40D / Sigma 10-20 EX DC HSM / Hoya ND8 filter / tripod

I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances within our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.” Copyright 2009 – 2010 © Sharon Mau / ourjrny / The Heart Within the Art / My images do not belong to the public domain. / Reproduction is strictly prohibited. / All rights reserved Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi / Shooting Date/Time: 30 August 2009 12:34:40 PM / Tv 1/250 / Av 10.0 / ISO 100 / Lens EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM / One-Shot AF / Drive Mode Single-frame shooting
