  • A Morning In The American West Every now and then you get a shot that just needs very little in the way of post processing. This is one of those shots. Captured in morning light looking west towards Red Rocks State Park outside Denver, Colorado…I had to get this along with a few others. Those are upcoming sometime. The light really communicated the overall mood and atmosphere, the color so vivid and alive…yes quite cool overtones with that blue and white, but visually….perfect scene! Minolta 5D| Minolta 18-200 DT Lens| Singh-Ray Circular Polarizer| Hoya UV Check out those clouds in the sky on the left by the hillside…almost like ribbons…I didn’t notice this ‘til after I developed the RAW file.

  • Blossoming cherry tree in spring with blossoming field and deep blue sky.

  • Welcome to Autumn in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado!

  • Captured in Rocky Mountain National Park, slight Orton effect used to communicate the atmosphere more…...wish scenes like this would last longer than just a couple weeks. / Thoughts welcomed!

  • Curvy road in Arizona Desert.

  • “Independence Pass Overlook” This past summer, I was able to get to parts of Colorado that I haven’t been to in close to 30 some odd years to do some shooting, and this is one of those places. “Famous” (perhaps even “Infamous”) Independence Pass….the second highest paved mountain pass in Colorado. Last time I was here I was about 11, and my Mom said she would never ever come back again, to drive on this road. It is incredibly narrow, though they have done some construction since then, however, what ya see here is just what ya get…..no guard rails and straight down, thousands of feet. It is stunning though, and my only real regret is that I couldn’t shoot it in the morning light, though I think next year I will, just will need to do an overnight as it is several hours away. From “Wikipedia”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independence_Pass_%28Colorado%29 / The pass is at the summit of the ridge of the Sawatch Range between Aspen and Leadville, on the border between Pitkin and Lake counties and is located within the confines of the White River National Forest. The pass connects the upper valley of the Roaring Fork River upstream from Aspen with the headwaters of the Arkansas River near Leadville. The pass is traversed by Colorado State Highway 82 and is the second-highest paved mountain pass in Colorado. The top of the pass is well above the tree line and the terrain type at the top is tundra. Its narrow road provides for slow cautious navigation on its approaches. Several switchbacks on each side of the pass make careful planning a must. The pass is always closed in winter, from the first heavy snow fall in autumn, often opening only in late May. • Shot as the storms started to roll on in, the evening’s out here on the plains can be a wonderful time for the light, here in Colorado. This road went down eventually to an old farm house, sadly it seemed abandoned, and as I sat here, my thoughts eventually started to turn to just how many people have driven down this now otherwise forgotten country road….sometimes the most gorgeous things are so close by, we just need to open our eyes to see them….. —-—-—-—-— See more on my website jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. • Boreas Pass, Colorado…..one of my favorite places on the face of the Earth to shoot at….the fact that there is hardly anyone ever up here and the fields of Wildflowers go on forever really make this quite an extraordinary place. Located on the Continental Divide, it reaches an altitude of 11,481 feet high. The pass was formerly known as Breckenridge Pass in the 1860s, when it served as an early route for thousands of prospectors during the Colorado Gold Rush who crossed from South Park to look for gold in the valley of the Blue around Breckenridge. In 1866, it was widened to a wagon road that accommodated stagecoaches. In 1882, under the direction of Sidney Dillon of the Union Pacific Railroad , the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad (by then controlled by the Union Pacific) begun laying narrow gauge tracks up the pass, which Dillon renamed in honor of Boreas, the Ancient Greek god of the North Wind.

  • Amazing that such a cold morning can seem to warm in a photograph, all because of color and light….needless to say I was freezing when I shot this and cold tripods usually don’t tend to warm your hands up well lol / Captured at Cherry Creek State Park, Colorado

  • There is something to be said to be at 12,000 feet high, with nothing around but you, tons of Wildflowers, the mountains, and nature. Welcome to Boreas Pass, Colorado, a place that has become one of my favorite photography locations!

  • I’m embarrassed to tell you the details of this shot, despite the lovely model. / Suffice it to say that it was a bit of a fluke, and turned out great. 2894 views at time of joining the 500+ views group – this classic old 35mm shot is still my most popular by more than double the number of views. akes me want to chuck all my expensive camera gear away and get an old clunker with no zoom again!!!

  • I visited this area many times over the last 20 years to photograph this very scene, usually in the dark after twilight. I was there two nights ago and I couldn’t resist shooting it again as the sun set. I was also fortunate this time to have the lights from the two cars which passed by, one up and one down the hill, aligned so nicely. This is taken at “Ladies Lookout” atop Signal Hill, St John’s Newfoundland Canada. “Ladies Lookout” is so named because from this very point women would for generations walk there to look for signs of their men returning from the fishing grounds, the Grand Banks of Newfoundland. You can only imagine when Mother Nature unleashed the mighty North Atlantic the humility these people must have felt! • The Hole of Horcum is a section of the valley of the Levisham Beck in the North York Moors of northern England, upstream of Levisham and Lockton. The Hole of Horcum is a vast, 400ft deep natural hollow measuring ¾ of a mile across. It has been naturally eroded over thousands of years by the action of springs, though a more romantic legend tells us that it was created when a giant named Wade, who was in fact a Saxon chief, grabbed a ‘handful’ of earth to throw at his wife, Bell – the soil missed its target and landed to form the 800ft high hill of Blakey Topping which lies about a mile to the east. Nikon D60 / HDR in photomatix / one shot, handheld / pp in PS CS3 / Lens: Nikkor 18-200m / 1/125 f/9.0 ISO200

  • La Salle is just off HWY 16 about 30 miles west of McBride BC in the Robson Valley. I grew up just a few miles from this spot. The Mountain in the background is nick named Hammer Mountain because Many years ago, I think before I was born, a forest fire left a scar in the shape of a hammer head just below tree line and below and to left of the highest peak. View large and see if you can spot it. / I took this photo over 20 years ago with my Canon AE-1 Program film camera. Captured on Kodak 100asa film.
