The Persistence Of Nature Experimentation. Growth. Expression. Creativity. Isn’t that what art really is all about? Echo Lake outside of Mountain Evans, Colorado. Towering above at 13,001 feet in altitude, Summit Lake is breathtaking. Showcasing Mount Evans in the background, it displays wildflowers which are found no where else on earth except the arctic circle. Captured in the morning light and processed in HDR, I really wanted to scene to come to life. Nestled outside of Copper Mountain in Colorado, this caught my attention fast as I was coming back home to Denver. It literally came out of no where, and thus I slammed on the breaks and made a B-line for the shoulder of the road. This was an utterly incredible scene, looking like it has never even been touched by man…..standing here looking at this, was nothing but absolute paradise….. / --John —-—-—-—-— See more on my website jdebordphoto.com
Garden Of the Gods Park, outside of Colorado Springs, Colorado, is without a doubt one of my all time favorite places to shoot at….the light there just dances, especially during the golden hours just after sunrise…..Pike’s Peak is in the background, with the wind blowing the snow into the sky. / Thoughts welcomed! Took this shot while snowshoeing around our area here in Whistler (BC) off the valley trail which offers great views. Seem to fit nicely for a B&W moment. / Cheers
Here’s another photo taken during our winter months along the valley trail with the sunset happening behind the mountains, the colors here aren’t played with, the evening did seem to turn somewhat purple, cheers

Being able to escape our little town and hike all these different trails is probably the best feeling and activity that we have here in the summer as long as you are a nature lover. Well this image was taken this summer as part of the Musical bumps trails which joins 3 summits at an average of 7500 feet. This circuit is 21 km long and ties in with The Singing Pass trail. / Taken with my handy Canon Xt, sigma 17-35mm lens / Part of this series /
Took this image as we were hiking in the Arches National Park in Utah. Really found this area so amazing from the rock formations (arches) to how well the Nature (trees, plants, wildlife) had adapted to a incredibly hard and arid environment. Pretty much everything has a purpose out in the desert and it’s true, only the strongest survive the elements. Always thought this image shows this in a way. / Canon Xt, Sigma 17-35mm, UV filter, better viewed full screen / As is with no post editing / Cheers
Trail runner – Dirt is good slogan
Second attempt at an HDR images which is composed of 3 images. Took this image last week as we were walking in the Whistler Golf Course as once the season is over, the open up the area and plenty of people come and chill, walk their dog and enjoy the views, Figured this would be a great chance to hunt around and try and find some great subject, angle etc for some HDR images as I’m still to figure out what works best. Took this with my Canon Xt, 17-35mm 2.8 lens, composed of 3 images. / Cheers / Better viewed full screen
During our last Spring road trip which brought us many different National Park, we decided last minute to go by Yosemite National park and now realize that this is a must to anyone willing to explore. We were lucky in the sense that the Park ranger were able to find us a campground for the night which was better then nothing at this point and allowed us to explore to area. We barely had to time skim the surface and we had to leave but we know we’ll be back. While we were there, we had a quick snack next to the river with this lovely waterfall in the background, can’t see how life can get any better then this. Canon Xt, 28-135 lens
Took this image one week ago during this hike up to Garibaldi Provincial park Lake which is located @ 1400 meters or so. From the valley, getting up here takes about 4 hours to cover the 9 km and the return trip takes about 7 hours and covers a distance of about 20 km. / Being that we haven’t seen much snow so far in the mountains, we hiked the first 3km and then had to put the snowshoes on. Lucky for us the sky was opening up when we go to the top, had a lovely bit to eat and headed back down. For more info about this Provincial park check out: / http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/garibaldi Part of this serie of images : / / Canon Xt, Sigma 17 to 35 mm lens / HDR Image : Combined 3 images
Going back to this series of images I took about 2 weeks ago when my wife and I hiked up to Garibaldi Lake which is in Garibaldi Provincial Park. This hike takes about 7hours to cover and is about 20 km in lenght. It’s a pretty easy and mellow trail and very well marked, I don’t think anyone could get lost on this one. This image is taken from the campground located near the shores of this lake with this view , a series of differents glaciers and moutains. This is another HDR images composed of 3 images / Taken with my Canon Xt and a Tamron 28-105 Sp lens / Cheers
During our last road trip through the US, we went back home using a different route yet again and this time bringing us through the Gorge area (Columbia River). What a beautiful area and amazing waterfalls that we encountered before it started raining. One of the most impressive was the Multnomah Falls. Took this is B&W as the lighting didn`t seem to be collaborating. / Slow shutter and tripod used. / Canon Xt with my Sigma 17-35 mm lens Here more info about this one / Multnomah Falls is, of course, THE place to stop for tourists in the Columbia River Gorge area in Oregon. It is awesome how this waterfall seems to “tower” over everything, a sight to see. However, you will not have this wonderful waterfall to yourself. Try to get there early in the morning to avoid the rush. At around sunrise, there will probably be very few, if any, other people here, and it is a wonderful experience viewing this waterfall with no one else around. But at any other time of day, the hordes of people around the falls ruin the experience in my opinion. After you have had enough time basking in the presence of Multnomah, hike up to the top of the waterfall (2 miles RT). There’s not really a good view of the falls from the top, but there are other waterfalls up there, and also some good views of the Columbia River, and you can peer down at all the people looking up at the falls from the viewpoints below. / More info can be found at : http://www.waterfallswest.com/ and from there go in Oregon and find Multnomah falls. / Cheers
Here’s another shot of Garibaldi Lake which is location in Garibaldi Provincial Park. This image is part of this series of HDR images I took when we did this 18 to 20 km hike (return). It’s one of the easiest hikes around and can be done summer like winter in about 7 to 8 hours return. When you get to the campground on a clear day, your rewards is this ridge of glaciers feeding this alpine lake. This one hiking trail links up to other which brings you over and around the ridge to the right onto another plateau which I’m hoping to do this summer, probably a 2 or 3 day hike. Canon Xt with a sigma 17 -35mm lens, 2.8 / HDR treatment in photomatix, and better viewed full screen Other images part of this series are : / / /
This image was taken during an awesome hike in Zion National Park (South Western Corner of UTAH ) near the Observation Point, an 8 miles retour hike with lots of vertical to climb. The view is absolutely amazing and if you have the chance of being alone at this point, you can hear the wind coming down the corridor and up the hills. You’ll probably have a few chipmucks looking for food around your feet and a few lizards enjoying the heat of the sun on the orange rocks. / This was our second trip to Zion and we fully took it in with nice long hikes and beautiful views. It’s simply unreal and makes you ground yourself quite nicely. / As the weeks go by and I have a chance to edit and play around with all my images, I’ll post various images of our trip that had us hiking over 160 miles in many beautiful American National and State parks. HDR image (photomatix), composed on 3 bracketed images / Canon Xt with my Sigma 17-35mm 2.8 / Handheld as well Better viewed full screen / Cheers / seb
