  • I was driving along side some of the many paddocks that frequent my area (the Hawkesbury area) when I came across this cow, the light seemed to be pretty decent and seeing as how the cow was a few metres away I decided it would be a good opportunity to test out my new 55-200mm lens.. / The cow just would not look at me (unusual for a cow) and then finally it decided to sneak a glance so I snapped the shutter and this was the result.. / Post processing involved adjusting the exposure, contrast and levels, and then applying a vignette and a monochrome filter. / I havent uploaded anything for quite some time so I decided to throw this image to the wind and see if it flies or crashes and burns.. / As per usual comments and critiquing are more than welcome, and thanks very much for taking a look! I spook to the two men they where from Fitzroy Crossing. They where watching a crowd of Indeginous Aboriginal men and women ‘hanging’ outside in the Plaza. They where waiting for the local liquorshop to open, In Fitzroy is now a ‘ban’ on alcohol, they told me, so Fitzroy Crossing is now a ‘dry’ Community Miss. / Broome, Western Australia. / Today I received an email stating; CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR IMAGE ‘TYPAN’ is one of 55 images from the PEOPLE & PLANET International Photo Competition. to be published in the 2009 People&Planet; Social Justice & Enviroment Diary, which will be published this month in Australia (2009). / We thought that your image was incredible, and it won from a pool of OVER 1000 images from 316 photographers from around the World! / All funds raised by the People&Planet diary go to Australia’s small non profit organisations which are working to promote social-justice and environmental substainability around the world. / / watched 802 times 7-11-09

  • This is an ongoing series of Ghost Gums reflected in rockholes. The results are often impressionist in style. I use a stopped down Apeture to ensure both water surface and deep reflection are in focus which seems to add layers to the depth of the finished image. / Ghost Gums are outrageously resilient trees, that can grow truely massive on the plains, or cling precariously to a cliff face in a defiance of what should be possible. Their gnarly white trunks and branches are a cracking contrast to the blue skys and red cliffs in which the steal life. At times they seem in animated dance on the rocky hills. / This series is an Ode to these wonders of the earth. This particular Gum is at Watarrka (Kings Canyon) in Central Australia, reflected in a waterhloe known as The Garden of Eden. / Canon 5D Mark II / Canon 24-105mm

  • The calendar Because I’m married to a cartographer, and worked in the survey/engineering/mapping industries for many years, images like this have always interested me.
