  • 4th December 2002 – my first total eclipse of the sun experience, which was in the desert of south australia.. Over 8000 people from all over the world turned up to witness the eclipse just near sunset.. with a totality of 27 seconds. The festival went for 5 days with non stop Psytrance music on several stages.. I also trekked to Turkey in 2006 to attend my 2nd total eclipse experience – i hope to experience four if im able (2009 India/Nepal and 2012 Australia). Its an experience everyone should witness .. People ive met at these festivals have become long life connections… this picture has a little story here in my journal

  • As Toyota and Jetstar are debating all around town, i thought i’d stir the pot with my little jump a bit more…

  • The lagoon was of course not blue. the blue of the sky is false colour obtained from the exchange of the red and blue channels of an infrared picture. The photo was taken in Geelong at the Aboriginal Craft & Cultural Interpretation Centre – Narana Creations. They have a beautiful walk and lots of artwork to buy. It’s a great chance to learn a little more about Australia’s real history. If it sounds like a plug then I guess it is although only by someone who’s been there once and was very impressed. It’s my first infrared lake so I’m happy with the results.

  • !! ! I recieved a phone call from a friend at Uluru who told me that it was / “Raining on The Rock” I had only ever seen it with solid blue skies after numerous visits. I said to my wife “put on your lippy, were heading for Uluru! We left Melbourne a few hours later, the distance from Melbourne to Uluru/Ayers Rock is 1170 miles / 2000 kilometres, we stayed one night in Burra an old copper mining town and one night in Coober Pedy where most of the worlds Opals are mined. Coober Pedy is like the wild west ! We arrived at the Uluru / Kata Tjuta National Park around 3pm after driving through wonderful torrential rain with low visibility for hours. I dropped my wife off at the resort and drove like crazy the next 14 kilometres deep into the area where Uluru sat so majestic, it is so large that from 10 kilometres out you feel like you could almost reach out and touch it. The rain hadn’t eased , I was shooting with Agfa Ulta Proffesional film which was only 50 ISO, so very slow with exceptionally high colour saturation. / I didn’t think I would have enough light to take a shot! As I drove closer the rain started to ease and would you believe the sun came out, I stopped my car in a non designated area, grabbed my camera and looked through my viewfinder. I was using a Leica R8 with a 200mm lens, / It was too powerful and I had to run into a field of “Ouch” thisles behind me to get the whole of Uluru in the frame. As I walked backwards I slipped and twisted my ankle ‘Big Ouch” but I had to get the shot !!! I finally had it all in frame ..Click.. Gotcha..click..Gotcha, then,oh no, I was out of film, couldn’t believe it !!! I hobbled back to the car, changed the film over, looked up and the cloud was gone!!!! I didn’t see the results for 3 weeks, had to wait till I arrived back in Melbourne to take the film to the pro lab, when I collected the proof sheet they told me I had a winner. I was overwhelmed with the result, I don’t believe there is another image like this anywhere. I hope you enjoy this image Ronald Rockman / / SHOULD DEFINITELY BE VIEWED LARGE! / THIS PIECE IS AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE AS A: / • Card / • Canvas Print / • Framed Print / • Laminated Print / • Matted Print / • Mounted Print PS I had over 550 hits on this image and 195 favourites before I accidentally deleted it , Ha LOL !!! / ! / ! / !!Pastel red to burgundy and spinifex to gold, / We’ve just come out of the Mulga where the plains forever roll. / And Albert Namatjira has painted all the scenes, / And a shower has changed the lustre of our land. And it’s raining on the Rock, / In a beautiful country, / And I’m proud to travel this big land, / As an Aborigine. / And it’s raining on the Rock What an almighty sight to see, / And I’m wishing and I’m dreaming that you were here with me. Everlasting daisies and a beautiful desert rose / Where does their beauty come from heaven knows. / I could ask the wedge-tail but he’s away too high, / I wonder if he understands it’s wonderful to fly. / It cannot be described with a picture, / The mesmerising colours of the Olgas. / Or the grandeur of the Rock / Uluru has power! And it’s raining on the Rock, / In a beautiful country, / And I’m proud to travel this big land, / As an Aborigine. / And it’s raining on the Rock / What an almighty sight to see, / And I’m wishing and I’m dreaming that you were here with me. • I wonder who it was that left this beautiful old car behind in the middle of no where? This mystery is what I love about these old wrecks, so many bits and pieces taken from the old girl, maybe to help another breakdown get going again? This beautiful wreck was about 50 klms out of Mildura, on the way to Mungo National Park, on the unsealed and rough road. Canon 50D, 15mm. Available large, and best viewed large!

  • / / Original pencil drawing on Aquarelle Arches paper 56×76cm / Drawing 15 hours/painting 12 hours = 27 hours total A digitally painted hand drawn artwork… the inspiration for this is “Meeting Places”... As a child one of the most frequent things we did together as a family was to attend church on Sundays, I went to a Catholic School and the church I remember best was St Agnes’ at Port Macquarie… the nuns would come over for morning tea sometimes, and the priests would come for dinner occasionally…they were the days of fun parish picnics and life that wasn’t so hurried..when we took time to socialise, meeting and enjoying one another’s company. Mum was/is a great cook and host…and although this picture isn’t authentic as a portrait of her and myself…it’s representative. It’s also representative of new life and hope for the future, as the mother figure is with child….. and the child herself nurtures the wildlife…perhaps she is taking them to church for a blessing… perhaps the joey has lost his mother and needs nursing til he can fend for himself. The kookaburra is all seeing and all knowing….. the wise overseer of the bush… in this case, he stands in as the owl figure.
