Every shoot has a story. Well, all my shoots do. Every single one. Most stories are kept between me and the people involved. This shoot’s story is so fun I thought / I’d share it. And with most good stories, this one is short and sweet. / It’s 2AM. I get a call from Michea. She’s drunk. HEY JEF!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING, she yells. “Not much, just working”, I know what’s coming. / “You wanna do a shoot?” she says. / I was there in ten minutes. / Nuff said.
1840 v2.0 / With the original versions of these pictures I was not able to use all the shots because they where damaged. But now, four years later, and with Photo Shop CS3, I’m able to rescue some really great pictures and show them now with pride. / This series was done in the middle of the woods, around the middle of Dec, 2002. It was freezing! The hot chocolate helped though. Most of these pictures are with Theak & Alex standing together, this was not a direction, and they were doing this out of a need for warmth! Half of these pictures were taken using a Nikon F, or F2 I believe, (no markings on the camera), and the other half with a Canon G3 digital camera. / Great makeup job by Rhiana, and of course, the whole look and feel of this shoot would not have been possible if not for the styling of Elisa. / Photo by Jef Harris / http://www.jefharris.net
The Fearless shoot was my chance to really plan a shoot unique to my creative relationship with Alexandra Rodionova. My idea was to compare fashion of today with fashion of around the time I was born, (1967). I used two full issues of Andy Warhols original Interview Magazine for the background. This was really hard for me, because these are really rare and really expensive. But if I wasn’t going to put everything I had into this it just wouldn’t be worth doing. This was one of those shoots were everything came together. The hair, (Mark), the makeup, (Caroline), the outfit, the background, the lighting, everything. / Photo by Jef Harris / http://www.jefharris.net
During a product shoot for a hip hop band, I caught Alex in between outfits. As she was facing away from me the light on her back was incredible. I asked her to freeze. She turned slightly and I took this picture. Model: Alexandra Rodionova / http://www.alexandrarodionova.net / Photo by Jef Harris / http://www.jefharris.net

Taken on the Byward Market in Ottawa, Ontario. I went there not really with the intention of taking any photos. I decided to throw my camera in my purse anyways seeing that the fall colours have started to come out and thought that the Market might be filled with autumn goodies. As one of my comments below states, although I love the artistry of graffiti, I do not necessarily condone it. What I loved about this is that it was a positive message, which is so rare these days.
This is a door from a restaurant that I have eaten at hundreds of times and walked by on the Byward Market thousands of times. This is the first time that I noticed that this door was there. Talk about being in my little bubble and oblivious to the world. Features - Bits and Pieces in November 2008 / - European Everyday Life in November 2008 / - Windows and Doors in November 2008

Springtime at the Arboretum in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. We had a late spring there, and trees just started to show new foliage. Taken in true infra-red and rendered as a duotone. Also appears in the calendar Reflections of the Seasons
Captured on a very bright sunny winter’s day in December down by the banks of the Ottawa River after a fresh snowfall. The late afternoon sun cast very long shadows that accentuated the loneliness of the park bench while also conjuring up the summer past. Also appears in the calendar Reflections of the Seasons
Rotunda, Parliament Buildings, Ottawa Canada This is the grand entrance to the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa. / The Centre, East and West blocks of the Parliament Buildings were built between 1859 and 1866 (excluding the Peace Tower and Library). / On February 3, 1916, near 9 p.m., a small fire started in the Parliamentary Reading Room in the Centre Block. Fed by stacks of newspapers and varnished woodwork, it was soon a raging blaze that claimed seven lives and reduced all but the north-west wing and the Library to a charred shell. Had an employee not closed the Library’s iron doors in time, thousands of irreplaceable books would also have been lost. / So strong was Canada’s commitment to maintaining a permanent home for Parliament that it began rebuilding the Centre Block while still embroiled in the First World War. The new structure, which preserved the Gothic Revival style of the original, was designed by John Pearson and Jean Omer Marchand and completed by 1922. Birds-eye view: the building “flows with the contours of the land like a massive natural outcropping of stratified, native rock Within this great continent, wherein lies this expansive and diverse nation, I could sense the feeling of time, the rhythm of time and the way nature had shaped and formed the land – that the formations had been carved by the elements and forces of nature, by wind, rain, the movement of water, the warmth of day, the coolness of night, the seasons. I felt that the building itself should express the evolution of the natural formations.”
Parliamentary Library Dome along with Queen Victoria statue. Canon 400D / Sigma 10-20 mm For Tallow !Canada’s Library of Parliament has officially reopened, after a four-year restoration and upgrade costing more than $136 million. The mammoth undertaking was necessary to repair leaking windows, dangerous wiring and walls that were literally falling apart in the 130-year-old building. A statue of Queen Victoria sits in the middle of the newly renovated Parliament Hill library in Ottawa. (Tom Hanson/CP) “Although we were denied the loveliness of the library for a while, it was only in order to bring back the lustre to this jewel on the hill,” said Peter Milliken, Speaker of the House of Commons, at a ceremony Tuesday to mark the end of the work. The Victorian Gothic building, with its flying buttresses and copper roof, sits at the back of the existing Houses of Parliament, overlooking the Ottawa River. The delicate restoration and upgrade was necessary because of concern about the library’s unique collection of historic books and lack of space to store them, as well as the building’s structure. GOVERNMENT OF CANADA: Library of Parliament / “I felt the building … needed some saving,” said project director Mary Soper in an interview with CBC Television. The work involved dismantling and rebuilding parts of the exterior and digging below the structure to create a large, climate-controlled space for books and documents. The copper roof has been replaced and parts of the exterior masonry rebuilt. “We have touched everything on the building top to bottom, inside and out — we’ve brought it up to date,” she said. The aim was to make the building structurally sound and improve the lighting, without losing any of the charm that makes the building a favourite with tourists visiting the Houses of Parliament. “The challenge here was the building did not have proper mechanical and electrical systems to not only conserve the bookshelves that are here, but also the collections which are among the most important in the country,” said Architect Jozef Zorko. The octagonal library, completed in 1876, is the only part of Canada’s original Houses of Parliament to have survived a major fire in 1916. A quick-thinking librarian closed the iron doors to the library as the fire burned through the Centre Block. But the library itself had to be restored after a 1952 fire when water rained down on the books and documents.
Who eats frogs? Snakes, turtles, herons, ducks…and… larger frogs. Captured at Mud Lake in Ottawa, Canada.

Large flocks of Waxwings descend on a single tree in the spring and pick the berries clean. I have read that Waxwings can become drunk eating too many of these berries. Well….. at least I have evidence of that. Next spring I promise a photo of the dignified, sober Bohemian Waxwing…..
Was sitting on a small rocky crag at Mud Lake having a quiet moment. This chipmunk arrived and began thrashing about in a bush just a few feet from where I sat. Intent on getting to the berries on a bush that could not support his weight, he resorted to all kinds of gymnastic type maneuvers. Very entertaining.
upstart gosling having words with mom.
It was my intent to capture this bird perched in the purple lilac flowers at Mud Lake. I positioned myself in such a way that he, not wanting to be too close, would stop in the lilacs. Apparently, wishing to take centre stage, this one landed much nearer. Perfection in nature. Yellow Warbler with a lilac bush in the background at Mud Lake.
