St Bathans is very rustic old gold town located in the South Island of New Zealand. It’s situated beside the beautiful Blue Lake (created by the sluicing and channelling of the gold diggers), the intense blue colour of the lake is caused by the mineral content of the surrounding cliffs.

Otago Bay, Tasmania, Australia
Hampden is a small town in North Otago here on New Zealand’s South Island. I was there for a night for a family gathering. I wanted to be with my family as much as possible, but the explorer in me is always itching to see new things. So when I woke up early and all but one person was still in bed, I decided to wander down and explore the beach. What you see here is a small stream from a pond some 60 feet behind where I stood, trickling down to meet the sea. I knelt down and waited patiently for the birds to wander into the centre of the frame before taking the picture, just to give it a little more life.
Otago NZ / One of my favorite places – and I love the photo despite the vignetting.

It may be flirting with the passing clouds daily, but the little white shed is happily married to its beautiful views.
I never did get around to posting all my autumn shots….so here’s another one…there’s a huge group of photogs all massed across the other side, trying to jostle for position on shifting reed beds and yuckky mud, and further across there’s a couple more. I gave up waiting over that side, and moved to the western edge to see what I could see…..now you can see what I could see :) This was processed in NZ with photomatix, back when I was probably a little overwhelmed by the colour….I might reprocess it and see if I like it better with my newer techniques New Zealand / Seascapes / Frogs / Lensbaby / Infrared / Industrial / Spam / Panorama / Landscapes / Real Estate Series / People

Majestic Remarkables Mountains on the southern edge of Lake Wakatipu near Queenstown in the Central Otago district of South Island (NZ) during autumn, awaiting for winter to cover its bare peak with snow. According to Maori legends Lake Wakatipu was formed when a giant sank into the ground forming a giant crater that was later filled with water. ‘Waka’ in local Maori tongue means ‘trough’ and ‘Tipu (or Tipua) means enchanted being, or a giant in this case. Shot from Bob’s Peak (Skyline Gondola) in Wakatipu Heights.

Acrylic on canvas / This is quite a change for me. / Abstracted view across Otago harbour (New Zealand) during the winter, with tussock grass mounds in foreground and the Otago peninsula in the background. / This was a Masters Art Challenge, I had to paint in the style of an artist – Marilyn Webb. I used different media…acrylic instead of watercolour and chalk.pastel on paper. / Drybrush technique was used for the sky.
