One of the seven wonders of Wales, Pistyll Rhaeadr, the waterfall at Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochant in the Tanat valley stands over 240ft high. Taken on film in 1996. One day I’ll get back there again with a digital camera
The Orton Effect
Orton Effect on a photo of building in Bath, England.
As the cold weather has seeped in, I’m spending more time indoors instead of out and I’m going through old photos I took in the past year. I came across this one of a male Eastern bluebird with cricket in beak. By the end of the summer, he was starting to look a bit ragged from having raised three clutches of babies. I thought I’d give him a makeover with the Orton effect, something experimental for me. So here’s Mr. Dreamy Bluebird; hope you like him. Please view larger.
Was a totally gorgeous but very cold January day today, went for a long walk on the beach. / Could not resist this grass (story of my life ;-) added orton effect, feeback please
Featured in Old & Rusty February 9, 2009. This is one of the side walls of the wonderful old Jackson’s Mill that’s being restored near Breezewood, PA, located on Jackson’s Mill Road. The Jackson’s Mill Covered Bridge is also at this location. Not a clue what this fascination of mine with windows and doors is all about, lol!!! This image was taken with the Nikon D40x, using the 18-135mm Nikon lens. Post processing included the Orton Effect and some cropping.
Walamurra Creek in the rainforest section of Royal National Park. This shot is taken from the same position as Ophelia and Swan Maiden but facing the opposite direction. This is a long, almost perfectly straight section of the creek which is rare in a rainforest. And we haven’t had decent rain here for months so it was such a treat to go there today and see the water flowing so freely after the last few day’s rain. The variety of Royal never ceases to amaze me – this creek flows through some of the most beautiful rainforest with huge moss-covered trees and ferns and epiphytes while a kilometer to the east a huge sea swell smashes against rugged sandstone cliffs topped with coastal heath. Don’t know anywhere else where you get such an amazing range of landscapes in such a small area. Taken with the Canon 1Ds MkIII / Tv: 5secs / Av: f/8 / ISO: 100 / FL: 16mm / Slight Orton effect in post-processing
Feature Cards for Everyday – 3/8/09 My brother and his wife hold a “small groups” meeting every Sunday night in their home. Upon arrival, right at 6:00pm on March 1, 2009, I just had to stop and take some pictures of this amazing sunset. It’s a neighborhood, so the trees and house tops appear as silhouettes. Edited with HDR and Orton affect. Sale of a card and matted print to a mystery buyer
This is the entrance to a hiking path in Pisgah National Forst, North Carolina taken on a foggy morning in March, 2009. The beautiful trees seem to be guarding the way – who knows what we’ll see! The only change I made to the original photo was the Orton effect with PhotoShop.
I found these beauties today while shopping and used DYNAMIC PHOTO HDR. Redlands, California!

Fishing Boats at the Smithton Wharf. / Duck River NW Tasmania I don’t really know much about Orton. When to use it, when not to. I stumbled across how to do it in NX2 so thought I would give it a shot and found a nice light, bright and airy shot to give it a go. / I think it came up OK but don’t be afraid to tell me if I have made some mistakes.
