These killings result from the perception that defense of the “family honor” justifies killing a woman whose behavior “dishonors” her family. The killing of a (possibly adulterous) wife by an enraged husband or the killing of a male by the family of (a supposedly dishonored) female is or was common and often condoned in many cultures (e.g. manslaughter). Such a cultural attitude was often reflected in a reduced sentence for such a murder by the judicial system. However the killing of females by their own family members is rare except in tribal[citation needed] cultures of the Middle East and South Asia. Honor killing of female family members is not tied to religion; it occurs among some rural Muslim communities with a strongly feudal tribal culture, among Druze and Christian tribes in some Arab countries and Pakistan, as well as among other South Asian communities, including Hindu and Sikh adherents in India, the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. However, it is much rarer or non-existent in the Muslim communities of most of Central Asia (including Kazakhstan and Kyrghyzstan), Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, sub-Saharan Africa, Malaysia and Indonesia, due to its cultural roots. The United Nations Population Fund estimates that the annual worldwide total of honor-killing victims may be as high as 5,000 women. this is a piece of art that i did on Good Friday, after came home from tamden riding with Lawrence and Jennifer. during the riding time, it had a strong urge that i wanting to create a piece of art. keep thinking what the theem will be, but no exact answer that i can reckon. / without knowing why and what to paint, without having any theem, just realized that i was mixing the colour, and splashinh pink on the edge. then it follows with other colours, one by one, slowly and deeply to each other, creates another piece of unexpected art. untill now, whenever i look at it, i’m trying to make some sense on it but i have no idea what and how it happen. / this piece of art shows me the freedom of creativity, without knowing what the theem is, and it just happen in its own way.
