  • Every Thursday morning we go out to help the poor, the aged and HIV/Aids sufferers with food, clothing and to do the paperwork for those who are illiterate and eligible for a government pension (about US$20 a month) / This image was for a special occasion… Christmas! Each child received a chocolate, some sweets, toys and clothing, so it was very special for them. This little boy, an AIDS orphan, is looked after by his grandmother who has to survive on the above pension and our ‘handouts’ every Thursday – a loaf of bread, some meal and whatever we have managed to collect during the week. / All the proceeds from the sale of this image will go to the Redhouse Benevolent Society.

  • On Tuesday December 23rd 2008, my son Kevin came home for the Christmas holidays, taking the commuter train from downtown Montreal to our home here on the North Shore. Upon disembarking, he heard loud mewing, followed the source to a snowbank and found this pitiful baby bundle outside in -14 C degrees temperature. Since it was very close to someone’s front door, he knocked, but the woman who answered said she had a dog and was allergic to cats. He tried a few other houses in the vicinity but to no avail and so brought this little lost kitty home to us. Later in the day he canvassed the neighborhood but without any success, no one wanted to claim this little orphan. It is a mystery since this small cat appeared to be about 6 weeks old, had no frozen extremeties, did not appear to be starved and other than being scared and hungry at the time seemed to be in perfect health. / So we have welcomed kitty into our home and named him Frankie after Old Blues himself! This photo was taken a few minutes after my son brought him home. / To see how Frankie is doing now Baby’s Got Blue Eyes Feautred in Kittens, April 2009 / RB popular art January 2009

  • Ok..so I’m a softy at heart…. this little red kangaroo joey will now grow up with a big reputation..not only photographed by yours truly, but also held by the great cyclist, Lance Armstrong. Placed in the Top Ten in the July Avatar Challenge for the Just Brown group – June 09 – thank you! Africa has millions of children orphaned by HIV / AIDS. Jacob, 15, our adopted son, is one of them. • She was hard to look at; this emaciated foal with wounds covering most of her lanky body. In some places, the bones of her legs were clearly visible where pieces of her flesh have been torn away…... Abandoned by her herd – probably because of the severity of her injuries – little Spring (as we have decided to call her) was rescued late yesterday afternoon. • This is my new charge called ‘Jellybean’. He is a baby rabbit and is only 8 days old. His mum (my pet Bella, whom I have photos in my portfolio) died on Sunday night after an infection from giving birth. I took her to the vet and got some medicine but it was too late. :( so now Jellybean relies on me for warmth and a feed every 2 1/2 hours, day and night! So far so good, he is at this moment sitting under my shirt against my belly… quite a funny feeling… :) / Nikon D80 / Nikkor 60mm Micro lens /

  • Well, little Bean is now 16 days old and thriving! As you can see, he hasn’t grown a great deal, but has acquired more ‘fluff’.. He has been upgraded to a cage with a lid, as he last night kept attempting to jump out of the box I had him in, so tonight I might get a bit more sleep! He sleeps with a heat bag stuffed inside this teddy which he loves to cuddle up to, and is drinking around every 4 hours now, sometimes more/sometimes less, and has around 6ml of formula, give or take a bit as he dribbles alot!! / I just want to thank everyone for their lovely comments and well wishes, I’m sure it has helped my little ‘Jellybean’.... thanks again, Kat xx
