I will always remember taking this shot, as I was caught in a Storm Force 10 on the north tip of mainland Orkney. The light was just right and as I was just getting finished I saw the makings of a huge wave out in the water. Trying to protect myself from injury I managed a sequence of 5 shots as the wave finally reached shore and crashed down on the submerged rocks. The next day when I revisited the shore much of it had been altered through the power of the waves. /
The Kirkwall Ba Game is one of the main annual events held in the town of Kirkwall, in Orkney, Scotland. It is one of a number of Ba Games played in the streets of towns around Scotland; these are examples of traditional football games which are still played in towns in the United Kingdom and worldwide. The two sides are the Uppies and the Doonies. Originally the side any individual played on was decided by whether he was born up or doon the gate, but with recent housing developments, this tends to be decided by family loyalties nowadays. Which side ferrylowpers (incomers) and people from the isles or rural areas take is either determined by the route taken on their first arrival in Kirkwall, by family influence, or by the side their friends play on. http://www.acornconcepts.com / http://www.virtualorkney.com

This is the last in my Puffins series for the moment. It’s not quite as sharp as I’d like, but I thought all the folk who were enjoying my puffin shots would like to see it. These puffins are “grazing” – gathering grass and stuff to repair their nests with. This housework is apparenty a common late afternoon activity. Taken on the island of Westray in the Orkney Isles. http://www.orcadiaimages.co.uk

The Selkie comes ashore at night and steps out of her seal skin and into human form. She must return before the sun rises and reclaim her skin or she will be forever on land, never able to go back to the sea. Coloured pencil on smooth paper
Again in CS3 and the Omni light filter, this one was just using the blue filter. / Film photo taken in 2005 of the Ring of Brodgar on the Orkney Isles, just off the coast of Scotland.

Urgently Required: TLC for one dilapidated and run down set of iron cogs in Orkney Scotland. This is taken at Happy Valley in Stenness Orkney. Now in the care of Orkney Islands Council this little haven is a paradise on the northern isles with a private wooded area, small waterfall and secret walks. Bliss!
Afternoon image of Hoysound in the Orkney Islands.
As I often walked around the ring of Brogar I noticed different things each time. The angles each upright impressed on the next often fascinated me on why some stones moved forward and some backward and obviously others not at all…. ah… some things are sent to try us.
