  • The Kirkwall Ba Game is one of the main annual events held in the town of Kirkwall, in Orkney, Scotland. It is one of a number of Ba Games played in the streets of towns around Scotland; these are examples of traditional football games which are still played in towns in the United Kingdom and worldwide. The two sides are the Uppies and the Doonies. Originally the side any individual played on was decided by whether he was born up or doon the gate, but with recent housing developments, this tends to be decided by family loyalties nowadays. Which side ferrylowpers (incomers) and people from the isles or rural areas take is either determined by the route taken on their first arrival in Kirkwall, by family influence, or by the side their friends play on. http://www.acornconcepts.com / http://www.virtualorkney.com

  • My friend and I took her campervan to Orkney in the summer and the first night we found this wonderful camp-site on South Ronaldsay and this was the sunset that welcomed us! The colours seemed so different but then so is the quality of the light up there … it’s magical!

  • Part of my 20 images that changed my portfolio set. A beautiful late spring sunset over the Ring of Brogar, Orkney Islands. A magnificent stone circle of neolithic era over 100 metres in diameter. Amazing. Inspiring. Haunting. World Heritage Site. Thanks for looking

  • Part of my 20 images that changed my portfolio set. I will always remember taking this shot, as I was caught in a Storm Force 10 on the north tip of mainland Orkney. The light was just right and as I was just getting finished I saw the makings of a huge wave out in the water. Trying to protect myself from injury I managed a sequence of 5 shots as the wave finally reached shore and crashed down on the submerged rocks. The next day when I revisited the shore much of it had been altered through the power of the waves. /

  • It looked like these puffins were playing a game of Hide and Seek! Photographed on Westray in the Orkney Islands, Scotland. http://www.orcadiaimages.co.uk

  • Puffin, photographed on Westray, Orkney. He was very inquisitive and came to have a good look to see what I was doing! http://www.orcadiaimages.co.uk

  • This is the last in my Puffins series for the moment. It’s not quite as sharp as I’d like, but I thought all the folk who were enjoying my puffin shots would like to see it. These puffins are “grazing” – gathering grass and stuff to repair their nests with. This housework is apparenty a common late afternoon activity. Taken on the island of Westray in the Orkney Isles. http://www.orcadiaimages.co.uk

  • The Selkie comes ashore at night and steps out of her seal skin and into human form. She must return before the sun rises and reclaim her skin or she will be forever on land, never able to go back to the sea. Coloured pencil on smooth paper

  • A calm evening at the Stenness Loch, Orkney. http://www.orcadiaimages.co.uk

  • My favourite of all of the photos I took of this fabulous stone circle on the Orkney Isles. Also known as the Orcadian Stones.. / The Ring has an area of 90,790 square feet (8,435 sq.m.). It is situated on a neck of land between the lochs Stenness and Harray. The circle has 36 stones remaining of an original 60 and the tallest still standing is approx. 15ft in height. There are carvings on some of the stones. We found the whole area quite fascinating as depending on which way we faced, the view was either very dark and broody or full of light. / Taken on film and scanned. / Camera:Minolta 101 zoom – partial zoom Featured in Photography 101 Group / featured in Shetland and Orkneys Group

  • Featuring scenes from the Orkney Islands, an archipelago of islands off the north coast of Scotland.

  • Again in CS3 and the Omni light filter, this one was just using the blue filter. / Film photo taken in 2005 of the Ring of Brodgar on the Orkney Isles, just off the coast of Scotland.

  • The raw power of the Atlantic along the North coast of Scotland. According to the forecast those were 6ft waves, boy I cant wait to get the 20 footers :-)
