Another in the fantasy planet series…
This image shows the three “stars” of Orion’s sword. / / The great nebula in the centre is classified as M42. It is approximately 7500 million million miles away from the earth. The red colour is caused by light being radiated by hydrogen atoms. The blue colour is the reflection of light being radiated by the massive O-class stars at the core of the nebula. The dark patches are caused by interstellar dust blocking our view. / / The smaller “Running Man Nebula” below it is classified as NGC1977. / / Technical details – Canon 400D with 200mm lens, 11×120 second exposures @ ISO800. Dark subtraction, flat field application, registration, stacking and processing in IRIS. Total exposure time 22 minutes. Here are some examples of my astrophotos as laminated prints
My backyard if Earth was a little closer to the Orion Nebula. Hubble’s Sharpest View of the Orion Nebula: / The Orion Nebula is a cavern of tumultuous gas and dust where thousands of stars are forming. The energy released by the young stars transforms their place of birth, whipping their surroundings into fantastic forms.
Also known as Messier 42, the famous nebula in the constellation Orion.

painting of orion from my book the alkara keepers / watercolor on fabriano 8.5×11 In a galaxy dominated by the Triaxan Empire, the last remnants of the Helassian Federation are the only resistance to a dark future ruled by Emperor Draegus. Striving for ultimate power, Draegus will stop at nothing to become the Apex, the pinnacle of all life. With the promise of peace he attended the Unus festival, where all Alkarans gathered as one. With the Alkara Keepers at their most vulnerable, Draegus massacred the only obstacle that might stand in his way. Orion, High Lord of the Helassian Federation and the last of the Alkara Keepers leads in exile. Forced to take his father’s place, he fights against the dictator that destroyed everything he knew. Sillel, the daughter of Emperor Dragus, awakens from her father’s prison and Orion discovers that he is no longer alone. The Alkara Keepers follows Sillel’s awakening to life and love as Orion struggles to find his destiny and rebuild what Draegus ripped apart. / http://www.alkarakeepers.com/

This is the first time I have incorporated a true image (not my own) into my artwork. A bit of an experiment I have downloaded an image of the Orion Nebula from the HubbleSite, these are not copyright and may be used by the public in any form as long as credit is given to N.A.S.A, which I have done… It is the Orion Nebula as I said with my own interpretations added to create a fantasy space image. Not as clever as making it myself I couldn’t resist this wonderful image of the Nebula as I was browsing them, there is much on here that doesn’t belong and if you compare it to the original you will notice the many changes but here (hopefully) seamlessly become part of reality… The Orion Nebula can be found in the constellation of Orion and you can see most of the stars that make up The Hunter…Orion is hunting the Bull, Taurus as he charges headforth into Orion as the constellations make their way around the night sky. I have a fractal image of Aldebaran, the red star that is the eye of Taurus too. Check it out here More than anything I wanted to show you the magnificent Orion Nebula, as caught by the Hubble Telescope, my editing is just a good excuse for me to put it on Red Bubble so you can all see it! FEATURED in A.D.A.W.G group… This is the original Hubble Telescope image of the Orion Nebula.. /
