Painted in olis on canvas applied to masonit / The background was hand painted, as with water colour I may have used an air brush, but not with oils none of my paintings are direct copies of photographs, photos are only used as references. None of my works are digitaly altered in anyway What you see is a direct photo from the original painting

Oil painting on linen canvas 1200×600mm The painting was constructed on diagonal lines, all leading the eye to the main bull elephant, who stands firm and proud in front of the water hole. I wanted to convey, the harsh dusty dry land, with the herd of animals having traveled miles in search of water, finaly the male stands in front of the much needed water hole.

Also, it was good to experiment using the acrylic in a different way – and I love the spiritual symbolism of the lotus flower.

I thought I might say a little bit about how we got these Ophelia shots. Missy is a VERY talented photographer friend of mine (to view her work, go http://missyjanek.deviantart.com/) and she has also modeled for me in the past. I thought she’d be great for this concept, so we started about 3pm yesterday. All was going well until she got in the pool and said “I don’t know how to swim!” So we struggled and propped her up with pool noodles and floaties and Adam even held her legs while she tried to stay afloat. I felt like she really was going to drown a couple of times! (We kept her in the shallow end, of course! and my dog was keeping watch as life guard.) For someone who had not really been in water before, I think she did a great job. :)

Lake Kochelsee and German Alps. / I live here, this lake belongs to my community / village (1 km from my home). / I come (by foot) almost once weekly for a walk to this coast / shoreline of the lake, relaxing a bit, enjoying nature, and mostly taking some photos.
