  • There is something distinctive about the sight and sound of a / human body falling from the rain forest canopy. The breathless / scream, the wildly gyrating arms and legs pumping thin air, the / rush of leaves, snapping branches, and the sickening thud, / followed by uneasy silence. Listening to that silence, I reflected / on how plant collecting can be an unpleasant sort of activity. / - Eric Hansen, Orchid Fever

  • Another flower from my show and poems for her. What mess was this as I stayed in bed my life was in my room. / I sat all day with stuff on my face to ease this crazy itch. / My hands were moving to my face but mom said don’t I dare. / She says that it will leave a spot that I will always wear. / I wondered what that spot could be I thought that she was crazy. / So as my little finger dug a hole deep in to my bed. / That itch sure knew how to make me crazy and drive my mind insane. / My mothers pleas fell on deft ears I soon began to scratch. / I started low around my knees and worked my way up top. / My mother stormed in just in time to come to the rescue. / For in her hands was new medicine to stop this crazy itching! / It worked for just a day or two my troubles came back fast, and in an instant my hands did pick a hole that I wear today. / I look back at that funny time this hole is my reminder. / I am kinda glad I made it now, it reminds me of my childhood. / And they were the best days of my life…. / Even with the chicken pox!

  • This is one of the flowers from my trip to the Zoo. I see the light to you my love its rays come down to me. / I sit an wait for you to come as you smile down on me. / I stumble in my mind each day for one moments hope. / That you will come down from above and kiss me once again. / I wait and wait I see you there your rays give me new hope. / I know your smiling down on me but a kiss is what I want. / I want to feel you in my arms the way I use to feel. / And then look in your stunning eyes and kiss your lips again. / I wait until I go to sleep to come to you each night. / But well aware that this is a dream the pain is twice as bad. / I wish for comfort from this pain that I might live again. / But each night that I go to sleep this dream with you brings pain. / I wake my pillows always stained with tears from missing you. / I wish that it was you that lived and me that should of died.

  • in S/C had to pop down to my parents to keep the fire going as they were out for the day and what did I spy sitting on the window ledge – a lovely Orchid which I adore and manage to kill not on purpose you understand, so took advantage of the situation (which was torrential rain outside and waiting for the fire to spark again) and using the window as my backdrop I took a few shots, it was horribly grey obviously outside which made light but not too bright! Members of this genus are commonly referred to as lady’s slipper orchids. First described in 1700, Cypripedium acaule is commonly referred to as the Pink Lady’s Slipper.[2] The Pink Lady’s Slipper is the provincial flower of Prince Edward Island, Canada, and in Nova Scotia, Canada it is considered endangered and is protected by law. If the plant’s blossom does not cycle through, it will not regenerate; for this reason, it is recommended that the flower not be picked. An alba variety exists which has a white lip instead of a pink one.” This information was taken directly from “Cypripedium acaule” found in Wikipedia online. Canon DSLR
