“If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more . . . to dream all the time. / ~ Marcel Proust (1871-1922), French novelist Being a practicing insomniac, I often think about sleep—when I should be sleeping. This image is a dreamy manipulation of an original, fractal design. NOTE: The artist suggests choosing BLACK as the backing color for this image.
Most people who have children or grandchildren are familiar with the Itsy Bitsy Spider song. When I spotted this very tiny spider (which I almost missed seeing altogether because it was so miniscule), I thought immediately of that childhood song. I took its picture and in PS, I placed the lyrics of the song right alongside it in remembrance of all the times I sang this with my children as they were growing up and am still singing it with my grandson who is now four. This may be a Mabel Orchard Spider, but I’m not sure. The field guides say it is 1/8 inch long. If anyone knows what kind of spider this is, I’d appreciate a word from you.

A little marble on a simple paper towel – look closer… / / / / / Featured in the Bubbler’s Weekly Challenge group on 17 Dec. 08 / /
In the central quadrangle of Wren’s Old Royal Naval College at Greenwich stands a statue of George II by John Michael Ruysbrack. Carved in stone, this swaggering composition includes an orb and sceptre, a magnificently flowing robe and a convenient classical semi-column for the king to lean on. Given the good ol’ HDR treatment. See more of my work at Dan Biggins Photography.

A Golden Orb Weaver, measuring close to 15cm in leg span. This guy managed to build a web that almost stretched across the street. Being 110% arachnophobic, I did’t dare get within 5 metres of this beast. (so thankful for the invention of the zoom lens am I). The little bundle above spidey is one of the 100 or so unfortunate bugs that managed to fly into the web. This guy was not going hungry in a while. / The lighting made the spider almost a silhouette, and the lighter brown parts of its legs came out a nice deeper red. There’s no other creature on the earth that I am more scared of, yet I have this strange fascination with them as well. Taken in my front yard, a beautiful specimen. This image was featured in Arachnids in June 2009. Many thanks!
After months of searching, a few days ago I found my electro plasma light. This novelty of the 90s was locked away at the furthest most upper part of my wardrobe. It’s something I have thought about photographing for a long time, but I had no game plan and no real ideas about how to do it. Fast forward to 180+ shots later, I came up with these. In total darkness I was able to achieve this glow on the globe, and the brighter electro-movement. The eerie glowing form in the background is my hand pressed against the (incredibly hot and tingling) glass globe. I really enjoyed this shoot, despite a lightly irritated palm, I found myself pretty happy with the results. As is from camera, no post processing at all. I made this in UF 5.

I dont’ know what it is,, but I seem to have an eye for catching the sun on a rope,, or power line as this one is.,, there was a lot of smoke in the atmosphere, giving the sun the pink tones,,,,,this is what I saw,,, no editing here,,,, and it was spectacular!!! If this is what early man saw,,, no wonder he thought the gods were angry,, or the sky was falling….....so unnatural, but so beautiful!!!!
