Dedicated to a very dear friend of mine – the same one who inspired “He Whom I Cannot Have.” Love might be painful, but the joy that comes out of it is such that I do not want to give up on it completely. He may not have realized what I felt at the time, but regardless, I can honestly say that my heart was completely content, and at peace, in that moment. Any friend who can find real beauty in the simple act of being silent while watching the sun dip below the waves is a friend you should be grateful for, and I truly am. Our friendship, like that moment, hadn’t lasted as long as I wished, my friend. But just to have had it at all, is more than a messed up man like me deserves, and is always something I will be able to continually thank God for, if nothing else. Thank you.

Not sure how you’d describe this. I wrote it one evening nearly 8 years ago, and I’ve no idea where it came from. I’m probably glad I’m not driven to do this often! Looking at it now, it seems as obscure and absurd in places as a bunch of Tull lyrics (good old Ian Anderson).
