This image was taken @ Port Willunga at the remains of the old jetty. On a recent journey back to Port Willunga recently, I’d noticed that many of these posts had been burnt. I finally got to paint this from my digital manipulation, Don’t Give Up Searching . I’m so pleased with the result. I used a few different textures and oil paint and made the eye brown rather then blue so that the image was unified in pallet to suit a college project so that I could paint this particular piece without abandoning duty. / UPDATE- / In 2008 this painting was STOLEN. / It was being displayed in Bentley Pines Restaurant with a group of other art from fellow students. toward the end of the year the restaurant went though refurbishments and stored the works in a disabled toilets :/ we were asked to collect the work but this painting had already gone before it could be collected. Ive contacted all the people in charge and been forwarded around like a telstra customer on hold and still haven’t gotten it back. :(

In quiet light, a golden glow / lasting a hundred perfect heartbeats… Artist’s notes: I have had the wonderful chance of seeing herons actually sunning themselves like this. In fact, there was one day that absolutely struck me with awe about the playfullness of these birds. I was working with a sheetrock crew, and the house we were at was on the banks of the Columbia river. We’d had a series of strange weather incidents in the valley, all of which flooded the river, and actually made a huge mess of it with countless trees/logs, branches, etc. being swept down the mountains and into the water. So for a couple of days, there was an endless log jam floating down the river. I was taking a break at the house during one of those days, and noticed herons standing on the logs floating down the river. They had their wings held out like in my picture above, and they were facing the sun. They would float down just so far, then turn and fly back up river. Next thing you know…here they’d come again… on a new log. All day long these herons kept repeating that cycle, catching rides on the logs while they could…and sunning themselves in the process. I thought that was so interesting and cool. As I stood on the bank watching this young man paddle his canoe across the lake. He seemed to be unaware of the beauty that lay behind him. This made me think about all the beauty that we behold each and every day that we simply ignore or take forgranted. Sometimes we need to just stop and really take in all of the marvelous creations around us. Taken in Carrollton Georgia – Lake Carroll Nikon D80 / 55-200mm Tamron lense / 75mm length / f/22 / ISO 100 / 1/60 This is my new favorite!!! /

by BigDBest View Larger Feature in All Countries ~ Wetlands, Ponds, Lakes and Rivers group. / Feature in JPG Cast-Offs group. I love this place as a young boy because I grew up here. Us boys used to walked several several miles just to swim at this pond before it was develop. This was taken on 10/14/2008 in the morning. The place is in the village of Potterville, PA. My camera was a Rebel XTi with a Sigma 17-70mm lens and a circular polarizer. Other equipment was a tripod and calbe release. Edited in HDR software. Click view larger to really see the beauty. / /
