Canon 20D – 17-40mm L – 17mm – 1s – f/11 Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon formed over the course of millions of years by erosion of the Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to wind erosion. Rainwater (especially during monsoon season) runs into the wash that Antelope Canyon is part of, picking up speed and sand as it rushes through the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways are eroded away, making the corridors wider and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rock. Upper Antelope Canyon, called Tse bighanilini, “the place where water runs through rocks” by the Navajo, is the most frequently visited by tourists, due to two considerations. First, its entrance and entire length are at ground level, requiring no climbing. Second, beams (shafts of direct sunlight radiating down from openings in the top of the canyon) are much more common in Upper than in Lower. Beams occur most often in the summer months, as they require the sun to be high in the sky. / In the same series: / / /

Its most common English name is glasswing, and its Spanish name is espejitos, which means “little mirrors.” Indeed, the tissue between the veins of its wings looks like glass. It is one of the more abundant clearwing species in its home range, which extends throughout Central America into Mexico. The opaque borders of its wings are dark brown sometimes tinted with red or orange, and its body is dark in color. Its wingspan is between 5.5 and 6 cm. Adults inhabit the rainforest understory and feed on the nectar of a variety of tropical flowers. G. oto prefers to lay its eggs on plants of the tropical nightshade genus Cestrum. The silvery-gray caterpillars feed on these toxic plants and store the alkaloids in their tissues, making them distasteful to predators such as birds. They retain their toxicity in adulthood. The same alkaloids that make them poisonous also are converted into pheromones by the males, which use them to attract females. by Birgitta

    US$3.56–US$95.00

This is exactly how it looked in 1989. The ivy stays here year round. It’s weird, because it’s barren outside; winter. But when you step inside (which isn’t hard..you simply step through the wall) it looks like a summer day. Very odd & surreal feeling. Taken last week, standing in the basement looking up at the back door. More from the abandoned farmhouse series soon. :) And Happy New Year everyone!! / It’s 8:37 p.m. here. • Dear bubble friends…it is my honour to present another dream request. Our bubble friend Sarah Moore requested that I create an image of her sweet boy Axel who unfortunately passed recently at less than a year and a half old. I can’t begin to tell you how emotional this was for me to create…being a mother myself, it is a devastating moment for any parent to have gone through such heartache, and such loss…as a little sweet soul like Axel Moore. For those of you who have not heard…here is some history: / / Sarah Moore is the mother of little Axel Moore: / / Sarah’s first journal since the loss of Axel: / I have written this JE a thousand times and each one has been deleted. / There are so many words that I want to say but none seem sufficient. / I can’t sleep for the images in my dreams are horrific. / My son was the most amazing child (every parent says that!) but he was special. He smiled all the time…he was never sad…he brought joy to all those around him in so many ways. He was the worst dancer in the world but he was always moving to the beat in his head. / He loved the outdoors…motorbikes and balls. / But most of all he loved his Dada. His Dada arriving home from work was the pinnacle of his day. / Our beautiful boy will live with us always in our hearts. / I want to say a huge thank you to everyone for your support, thoughts and bubblemails. It means a lot that there are so many people out there thinking of us right now. / Sarah’s Heartfelt Thanks / / I finally have a few minutes to catch my breath and thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for your thoughts, prayers and incredible generosity. The Redbubble community have been amazing and all my family and friend have commented on the love and support demonstrated by you all. / I thought as so many of you couldn’t be with us at the funeral to celebrate Axel’s life, that I would put the transcript here along with some pictures. / There were over 300 people at the funeral from all over Australia. / (Please click on the picture to read more) / Sarah shared with me one of her very special memories of Axel that I would like to share with you / One of Axel’s favorite things to do was collect oranges from the mandarin tree…he had his own bucket and would even eat them skin and all from the ground. He loved the outdoors so much…if he wanted to go outside, he would bring his little sneakers to mommy and plonk them on her lap saying “shoos”. This meant mommy would put them on him, then he would run to the front door and wait for mommy to open it for him so he could escape and play. He would immediately race to say hello to the dogs and than straight down to the Mandarin Tree to collect them off of the ground. / Sarah, again I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet little boy…but you are truly blessed to have had those wonderful memories with him…he is in God’s hands now, and being very well taken care of…and I know he still loves his mandarin tree, I truly feel that in my heart! / Here are some beautiful pictures of Axel / / / / /

  • When we are sad we feel insignificant…. spaced out – and can’t see the glorious world in front of our faces… just for a moment… and then it passes and you see it all again…. this image represents that moment in time, with a pure expanse of aesthetics in front of the figure completely lost in his own sadness. _and for an insight by Andrew Walker into the very creative mind and inner workings of the vanzella mind read the following

  • Ablaze
    by Michelle Boyer

    US$3.42–US$91.20

So I’m afraid that a close-up of an eye with various work in photoshop may be a bit cliché- but enough people have done it that I don’t have a particular example to credit as my inspiration. Created in photoshop with a picture I took of my eye (next to the sink :) ) and a picture of a campfire from this summer. I now also have a second in a series of element eye images Awash – let me know what you think, I think I like Ablaze better but it will be cool when I have all of them… /
