This work won the Maitland Art Prize for works on paper (acquisitive). It was such fun to do.
This t-shirt was inspired by a friend who informed me about a huge debate on the internet that I had been oblivious to. Ninja’s versus Pirates (who would wn) This t-shirt is in his honour for lightening up my day and making me laugh. There is a 2nd shirt about Ninja career option also uploaded. I also hope to follow up with some pirate ones or ones about the debate itself.
I never even considered how much more effective this campaign would be ‘til the inspiration recieved from a fellow ‘bubbler’, made me!! I think it’s a GREAT way to get the message across!! (Happy to negoitate the $ displayed!)
What can I say, these were my shoes and then I had to make a sculpture….and the rest was history…...

The little orange kitty was on my patio hiding under some shelves when it started raining & he got scared. I kept hearing an unfamiliar meow & when I went to investigate I found him huddled up trying not to get wet! Well the rain came down pretty hard for all of about 8 whole minutes & when my kitten discovered the open door he came out & quickly found the little one but he wasn’t playing nice & would hiss & growl & swat at him so I kept jumping in to stop him. Each time he’d just take off & go play somewhere else and each time he did that little kitty would be right behind him & up in his face again! It was hilarious! That kitty wanted to play & he wasn’t giving up on it! I finally just let them go ‘cuz I couldn’t keep that kitty out of his face & I couldn’t see wearing myself out trying to do the impossible. They had a few more incidents but that kitty was determined & before it was all said & done my kitty was playing with him some not outright of course but he was warming up to him a little. Well he wasn’t hating him so much anyway. That’s a start! =)

What is art to you, and how do you justify it’s existence in the day to day of life? I’d like to know… Here’s a few phrases that get my head spinning: Art – an optional extra in my life? / Art – a neverending apprenticeship / Art – a must have/must do / Art – how do i justify it? Right now I’m in the situation where my family are all around, they’re on holidays, including my husband Scott. They would like me to participate with them, but my head is screaming all things art…. it’s vying for my attention, and I’m pulled in so many different directions it’s not even funny. Someone really wise once said, ‘balance… it’s everything’ and of course they are right. But it’s a really tough thing to find a balance. In my situation, where art does not make a living for me, the money I make from art is great… it’s enough to support the costs involved with creating art, a welcome relief from the days when I had to hit my husband’s hip pocket continually. But I continually struggle with the justification of continuing to produce art, when I don’t make enough to pay bills with the profits….. It’s also very hard to justify leaving the washing and ironing for 3 days straight, when one is really required to be mothering and nurturing her little family and being mother hen… and then we have our outer circle of friends, who make life all the more fun and worthwhile as well…. just how to fit it all in… the mind boggles. Since I’m an all or nothing person, i tend to give 3 days to art, 2 days to a week in intensity to family, chunks of time to my friends and loved ones…and then immersed again in art, hoping that nobody notices the imbalance and imperfections… but here and there, the custard slops out of the profiterole, and it looks messy… then i spend days to weeks procrastinating on how to tidy the mess… mess prevents me doing anything.. so until the mess is clear, i produce only more mess. Hilarious. This is my life. What’s yours like I wonder? / Scotty and I at the beach for a walk yesterday, ahhh, just relaxing… tis where i get a lot of my inspiration from…and nutting out things….it’s good to go for walks and talks, it really helps put things into perspective I find, what about you? / Family, cousins, visitors and friends…. it’s nice to have them and spend time with them…. How do you balance your art and your life? I think art is like a neverending apprenticeship, a calling, a lifetime of learning, unlike a priest, mechanic or a hairdresser, there is no assurance of an income, being an artist to me is not so much about drawing pretty pictures, but more about helping me to understand myself, my fellow beings and bringing a special dimension of enjoyment into my life, which, without doubt, would not exist without the continual desire to create and bring forth something from the web of thoughts and dreams, ideals and visions that pour through my mind during inspirational times….. without it I would feel less…. so i guess that’s why I continue to do it….so that I feel more, feel happier, feel fulfilled, enjoy getting lost in the moment, and enjoy sharing my creations with a wider audience than just my family, friends and self.

Update 06 December 2009 Important NOTICE / / I want the option of turning off the “share” features on RedBubble. / To say this new feature is annoying is an understatement, especially since it was recently added without my knowledge or agreement. / On another subject: I discovered today a “social bookmarking site for pictures” ..... An extension allows someone to post an image to their account by right clicking on it.” / / At the bottom of the page there is a tab which asks / “Do you have any questions, bug reports or wishes?” / So, I clicked on that and reported my request for my images to be removed. Any tips on preventing this? I thought we had right/click protection on this site! / / Occasionally, depending upon how busy I am, I search for myself on the internet using various search engines available. It is always interesting to see what appears, what is unrelated to me, and what is attached to my name, and I have learned to be wary and careful of which websites to open, for there are some in other countries which actually are more like land mines raising all manner of red flags with my computer security software. / / Even so, I conducted a search today, a rather extensive search using my name and certain keywords. And I discovered this webpage with my image, along with many other photographers and artists. I can tell you I am very upset that so many people on the internet so blatantly ignore my copyright notice. This member does not have my permission to reproduce my image in their collection of “Favourites”. It is outrageous that we have no control over our imagery and how it is copy/pasted, downloaded/shared ….... / / You may wish to have a look at this webpage to see if your images are here as well. Some I recognise from artists here on RedBubble and some look very familiar. I am sending a request for the website to delete and immediately remove my copyrighted work/s from their site. It does not matter to me that this person links my image back to my RedBubble site, I do not like the share feature and seeing my imagery on another website without my prior written authorization. As a member of RedBubble we should have the option of whether or not we wish to share our content. / / You may open this link to view the images this person has “collected” and gleaned from the internet. / vi.sualize.us / / Here is the code for the my image, which is completely different from my own image, found in the properties of the “shared” image. / http://img1.visualizeus.com/thumbs/09/04/02/beach,beauty,ocean,sea,torrent-c2ee3bfa23547fb2d111613f9d9b23bf_h.jpg / / As clearly stated on the front page of my portfolio:* / I own full and exclusive copyrights on all my photographs, digital art and images on this website and they are protected under International Copyright laws.
