spectre update

Thanks everyone for your interest in my where’s dinghy / and dinghy’s here images which I posted last night. I had just realised that the odd rainbow around my head’s shadow (which moved with me as I took several shots, downhill into fog with a low morning sun behind me) was possibly an optical phenomenon called brocken spectre glory tho it looked more like a like a halo (and I’m not a bit saintly!!). The atmospheric optics group have accepted the image which the wonderful photographer Ern Mainka confirms is a faint version of a brocken spectre glory … now look at his tremendous example of the real thing in full colour below (which makes me feel very humble indeed) entilted:- Brocken Spectre and Glory by Ern Mainka (press image for link to his page with fascinating details) Thanks all for your lovely comments, interest and support. The rest of Erns gallery is just amazing too! / cheers / dinger PS Winner of where’s dinghy virtual prize competition goes to …..(drum roll)... / 1st prize: EdgeOfReality who nailed it ! well done Edgie! :)))) 2nd : Sean Farragher pipped at the post 3rd : Rosina Lamberti a whisker behind… Well done all and hope you like your (virtual) prizes! ding / :)))))

I must say I was quite fascinating with this story i saw on the The Science Channel yesterday, it was all about the LBT (Large Binocular Telescope) if you can check it out, if it interests you as well. I will say this, i have always dreaded not knowing whats coming space wise, and Hubble to me wasnt good enough frankly, but this LBT can tell us and in advance! No fear now once its up and running in full operational mode. Your average binoculars like: Canon L IS WP (10×42) Binoculars, Yet LBT can see 5000×8400!!! / Just to give you an idea of how accurate these can see, they say they could put a soccer ball out past our own galaxy, and be able to easily read the manufacturers label! optical – information provided by wikipedia:
Op art, also known as optical art, is a genre of visual art, especially painting, that makes use of optical illusions. Op art is also known as geometric abstraction and hard-edge abstraction, although the preferred term for it is perceptual abstraction. "Optical Art is a method of painting concerning the interaction between illusion and picture plane, between understanding and seeing." Op art works are abstract, with many of the better known pieces made in only black and white. When the viewer looks at them, the impression is given of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibration, patterns, or alternatively, of swelling or warping.RedBubble is a great place to find art, design, photos and writing from over 50,000 talented people.
