Hello all just a quick note to let you all know that i wil be particpating in a group exhibition of 5 artists (including me) at the arthouse which is a gallery space located at “the big cactus” for location details go to www.thebigcactus.com.au The opening night is mainly for those who are interested in artwork and the creative process of being an artist. Its more about experiencing a working studio that has opened up into a gallery space and meeting the participating artists who will now have works available through this gallery space and be represented by Ms Tania Iggulden. I will regularly update my redbubble page with the works that i have up in the gallery and of he events that will be happening there. Head to Taliana Design for a behind-the-scenes look at the practice of design. Taliana Design is situated among other creatives, in a relaxed setting, at the Langridge Design Centre in Collingwood. What began as a graphic design business, today encompasses so much more, such as illustration, web design and e-campaigns. There are 4 session times available, so you can visit Taliana Design and see what we really get up to. I’m preparing for a group exhibition in August, as part of the newly funded Yarra Valley Open Studios project. In March/April 09 We are opening 30 working studios to the public for a weekend, and this 3 week exhibition is part of the prelude to that event. The theme for this August exhibition is “Artist in Context”, and shows the development of art, from idea to finished works. I’ll be showing a visual diary with each work, to explain (by exclusion of the rubbish) how I arrived at the final piece. Also exhibiting will be Bec Smith, talented local photog, two fine jewellers, Tim Peel and Cathy Van den Essen, Textile artist Nicola Stairmand, and ceramist Alistair Whyte. The exhibition opens at the Three Stories gallery in Healesville, on August 22. Anyone interested in the project, feel free to leave a message here or email me at mike (at) thepub.com

I hope this is not too much like spam, but quite a number of people have been asking – so here’s your official invitation! The Open Studios exhibition is about seeing the “Artist in Context”. It explores the artistic process of six artists as they make artistic decisions, and how a piece develops from an idea to a completed work. Work on show from the group includes jewelry, textiles, ceramics, and photography, each showing development work such as inspirational clippings, drawings and sketches, visual diaries, contact prints, and discarded incomplete works. In April 2009, the Yarra Valley Open Studios project launches with up to 30 working studios open to the public over a weekend. I am proud to announce that I am the Co-Chairman and Co-Organizer / for The International Fine Art Society of San Diego. The International Fine Art Society – San Diego (IFAS-SD) is an organization / for all those who enjoy the Fine Arts and would like to share their experiences with others. We encourage artists, painters, photographers, sculptors, graphic designers, gallery owners, etc. to join and actively participate. However, it is important to note that you do not have to be art smart; you just have to be able to enjoy art, as well as to meet with others with the same interests. You also don’t have to be an artist, have artistic talent, or be affiliated with the art industry to join this group, just an appreciation of Fine Arts! The Mission of the IFAS-SD is to both encourage and support the creation of and appreciation of Fine Art with particular emphasis on painting, drawing, sculpture and photography. We do this through events such as Meet the Artist seminars, community art walks, art education and appreciation events, by attending gallery openings, touring museums, art discussion events and many other interesting and fun events.
