Tobermory is a gorgeous little town on the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula in Ontario. It’s harbor not only filled with luxury yachts but also with a lot of shipwrecks, which makes it a divers paradise. It’s part of the Fathom Five National Marine Park of Canada. Luckily for me you don’t have to dive to discover a few of the shipwrecks. Luckily because I spent to much time underwater once, without diving gear, and I’m not inclined to submerge myself for longer periods under water. ;) This beauty caught my eye when strolling along the shore, with the duck approaching, I had to hurry but I was just in time to capture it. This image is one of my most popular wallpapers on my wallpaper website and I hope it will make me proud here also. You can find this image as a wallpaper on my wallpaper website
In life as well as fishing it’s all about the journey! / As the sunrise burned through the fog early Sunday morning, on Clear Lake near Hunstville, Ontario, two fishermen enthusiastically set out for their favourite fishing spot… / This shot was as a result of an early morning walk in / August 2008 in the fog: part planning, part serendipity. I particularly like the fact that compared to a lot of fog shots it displays color, to I think, an advantage and shows the promise of a beautiful sunny summer day emerging… Nikon D40, Nikkor 18-55mm lens Top Ten in the Journey or Destination challenge for the First Things group, July 2009 / Featured in the Outsiders, March 2009 / Featured in Canada: The Great White North group September 2008 / Featured in the Nirvana group September 2008 / Avatar for Shots In The Fog group October 2008 / Featured in the ImageWriting group November 2008 / Featured in the 100% group. 1840 v2.0 / With the original versions of these pictures I was not able to use all the shots because they where damaged. But now, four years later, and with Photo Shop CS3, I’m able to rescue some really great pictures and show them now with pride. / This series was done in the middle of the woods, around the middle of Dec, 2002. It was freezing! The hot chocolate helped though. Most of these pictures are with Theak & Alex standing together, this was not a direction, and they were doing this out of a need for warmth! Half of these pictures were taken using a Nikon F, or F2 I believe, (no markings on the camera), and the other half with a Canon G3 digital camera. / Great makeup job by Rhiana, and of course, the whole look and feel of this shoot would not have been possible if not for the styling of Elisa. / Photo by Jef Harris / http://www.jefharris.net

Featured in The Birds – Feb. 15, 2009 / I can almost feel it. Spring is JUST around the corner. It’s such an exciting time in Canada after a long and cold winter. The lilac trees bloom putting forth the sweetest scent and the hummingbirds return to our property after a long migration. Yes, Spring will be here before we know it. I can’t wait! I spent countless HOURS last summer, sitting in a lawn chair, ever so patiently waiting to try & capture one of these little darlings in flight. They are only 7-9 cm long. While hovering their wings beat 55x/s, 61x/s when moving backwards, and at least 75x/s when moving forward! / / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / Processing info: / This image started out with 3 photograph layers (the lilac background image, a female ruby-throated hummingbird, and the tail from a different photo of the same bird). I took all of the original images with my Canon DSLR. After removing the background around the original bird photos I merged all of the layers in PhotoShop. I digitally painted/blended the entire image in Corel Painter X using the Impasto Depth Smear brush at 30% opacity. I cloned out a distracting branch in the upper left corner and performed blend # 2 work on the main lilac blooms, hummingbird, and the largest leaves using grainy blender 10 brush at 38% opacity. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / Bird Gallery / ADD RENEE TO YOUR WATCHLIST

Featured in Fantasy Fine Art Composites and in Butterflies, skippers, moths & other Winged Insects – March 23, 2009 The Emerald Swallowtail Butterfly – also known as the Emerald Peacock or Green-Banded Peacock – is found primarily in South East Asia. It has iridescent scales that give their wings a glittery appearance. I created the background from scratch in Corel Painter, added various texture layers, and inserted this beautiful swallowtail from an image I took at the Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls. / / Beautiful Bugs / / ADD RENEE TO YOUR WATCHLIST
Featured in Animal Portraits and Cats & Dogs – March 11, 2009 and in Paws n Claws June 2009. I took the original photo of my friend’s dog last summer with my Canon DSLR at a campsite in Ontario. I really liked the image but wanted to kick it up a notch :) I redid the entire image in Corel Painter starting with a gentle watercolor blend of the background. I then repainted the entire collar, cloned out some distractions and gave it a vibrant and new red tone. Every single piece of hair on the dog was then painted & blended with watercolor and airbrushes. A BEFORE & AFTER view can be seen in my comment section / Black & White Version / / Pet Portraits /
This is a picture of my girlfriend and myself on the shores of Lake Ontario in early April last year. The photo is untouched and still one of the most beautiful sunset pictures I have ever seen!
Out of the 13 Wood Peckers known to Canada, the Downy Woodpecker is the smallest. The male, as shown here, has a small scarlet patch at the back of his crown. This little darling has been visiting my property regularly for 2 weeks now and, much to my delight, does not fly away when I am nearby. This past weekend if I would have taken 1 more step and stretched out my arm I could have touched him :) All the white flecks you see on and around his beak are snowflakes. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / Canon Rebel EOS XTi w/70-200mm f/4L IS lens @ 200mm / SS: 1/500, ISO 400, f/7.1 (Aperture Priority Mode) / Photo taken on my property – Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada Post Processing: Increased saturation ‘just slightly’ and darkened the midtones/highlights etc. around outer perimeter of the image to accent this pretty little bird. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— / Bird Gallery / / ADD RENEE TO YOUR WATCHLIST

This delightful little female popped out in front of me and at the time I just happened to have my camera in hand. She was about 20 feet away and was just taking a look around…...........naturally I froze still as possible and zoomed in quickly. I had about 15 seconds before she was gone. They are amazingly fast and move like a snake. It is common for the mink to manage 3 dens and use them at various times of the year. Each individual requires an area equivalent to 30 acres to sustain them. / This is a natural photo in her natural habitat. ( I used a 70 – 300 mm lens and zoomed closer. f 5.6, exposure 1/400 sec, ISO 400, maximum aperture 5, metering mode – pattern ) / Location of image – Ottawa River, Pembroke, ON where Muskrat River and Ottawa River join. / /

Birds-eye view: the building “flows with the contours of the land like a massive natural outcropping of stratified, native rock Within this great continent, wherein lies this expansive and diverse nation, I could sense the feeling of time, the rhythm of time and the way nature had shaped and formed the land – that the formations had been carved by the elements and forces of nature, by wind, rain, the movement of water, the warmth of day, the coolness of night, the seasons. I felt that the building itself should express the evolution of the natural formations.”
Common Green Darner (Anax junius) covered with water drops from an early morning rain sprinkle sits on a purple cone flower in my back yard waiting to dry out. In a half hour he was dry and gone. Photographed in Fort Frances, Ontario. SOLD as a mounted print – March 22, 2009.
