I shot this in Rhuengari on the border of the Democratic republic of Congo and Rwanda. A place of brutal fighting juxtaposed with stunning volcanos.

This one is a bit older than some of the stuff I’ve put up here so far. It was done a couple of years ago for a book titled “The Big Coat.” (Not exactly my best writing.) Despite the story not exactly standing the test of time I think this piece still holds up fairly well. No? Okay, maybe not, but could you at least pretend that it’s fantastic? Pretty please? Pretty please with sugar on top? Pretty please with sugar and a fresh, crisp new fifty dollar bill on top?
Mrs. Redbird, also known as Mama Cardinal, is busy at work setting on these three lovely eggs. She made a nest in a rosebush right next to my bedroom window and has graced me with the pleasure of her sweet presence. It’s delightful watching her as she serenely incubates the eggs in anticipation of her new family. Mr. Redbird supports her with gentle ministrations and encouragement, sometimes feeding her in tender exchanges with a bit of sunflower seed at the patio feeders. Life is filled with love and joy! Postscript: This is a deja vue experience for me. See my story, The Cardinal, and you’ll understand why. Here’s a photo of Mrs. Redbird:
