Remembering my Oma’s soul

Despite their reservations Oma and Opa good naturedly took part in Earth Hour 2008 while they were visiting from the Netherlands earlier this year. But not even ‘lights out’ could interfere with the fixed dutch tradition of “coffee tijd” nor Opa’s puzzle books! The candleight reminded me of all those Amsterdam cafes.

My daughter and son had a nanna and an oma. / Nanna was of second-generation Irish background and oma, was born in Gouda, the Netherlands, and that birth and her marriage were registered in the town hall (stadhuis) which remained the beloved symbol of her background, all her life. / Partly, in honour of their Irish heritage, my children grew up with a last name, changed from Mul to Mulholland. I love this shot. I feel it depicts our Australian Summer beautifully. All the wonderful activity at the beach. My mother used to be a beach babe – and now she enjoys watching and being part of my young beach babe’s lives.
