Mystical manifestation of Avalokiteshvara, beloved Buddhist bodhisattva of compassion, maybe better known to the Chinese as Kwan Yin (Quan Yin), or as Kannon to the Japanese. This version shows 11 heads and 8 principal arms, no way i was going to attempt to draw the other 992 arms. Om Mani Padmi Hum, (The Jewel in the Lotus), mantra of Avalokiteshvara, is shown at the bottom in Tibetan script.

Taken in Hamburg, Germany, in September (?) 1982. / I was actually going to Munich (Munchen), but managed to get tickets for England vs Denmark, in Copenhagen. A detour of approx 600 miles (1000 km) / It was a fun trip, and nice to see this lovely old Ship in the harbour. / It looks like a replica of an old galleon or pirate ship. / Hence the Jolly Roger flying from the mast. It looks like the sea has exploded against the rock. This is a scanned image of a picture taken in the late 70’s, at Lizard Point in Cornwall. / In all of my visits there since, I have never seen anything like this again. Lizard Point is the most southerly part of mainland Britain, and the nearest main town is Helston. Scanned Image. / Taken on 35mm film. / Olympus OM1N. / Seiko 50mm 1.8 (?) Lens. In Hinduism, sadhu is a common term for a mystic,an ascetic, practitioner of yoga (yogi) and/or wandering monks. The sadhu is solely dedicated to achieving the fourth and final Hindu goal of life, moksha (liberation), through meditation and contemplation. Sadhu is usually referred to as “Baba” by common people. The word ‘baba’ also means father, or uncle, in many Indian languages. Sometimes the respectful suffix ‘ji’ may also be added after baba, to give greater respect to the renunciate. Sadhus often wear ochre-colored clothing, symbolizing renunciation. There are 4 or 5 million Sadhus in India today and they are still widely respected: revered for their holiness.Sadhus are not unified in their practices. Some live in the mountains alone for years at a time, eating only a few bananas. Others walk around with one hand in the air for decades. Still others partake in the religious consumption of charas (hand-made cannabis hashish) and contemplate the cosmic nature and presence of God in the smoke patterns. Sadhus engage in a wide variety of religious practices. Some practice extreme asceticism while others mainly focus on praying, chanting or meditating.
