Because of copyrights it is not possible to show an image with the use / deformation of the olympic rings in order to expose ideas about the Chinese politics. This limit however has helped to come up with this idea. Where Are The Missing protesters? / With the Beijing Olympics on the horizon, more than 1,000 people who were detained in Tibet for protesting against the Chinese government three months ago remain unaccounted for, according to a report by Amnesty. Hundreds of people languish in Chinese prisons for peacefully expressing their opinions, in appalling conditions and without their relatives even knowing where they are. Source: CNN

July 13, 2001 when Beijing was selected for the 2008 Summer Olympics. People literally poured into the streets after this and it has been a countdown ever since. The Olympics will open 8/8/08 at 8 o’clock. 8 is a lucky number in China, associated with good fortune.

Crowd control Chinese style, just a short distance from the Birds Nest Stadium in Beijing on the evening of the Opening Ceremony for the 29th Olympic Games. There were literally 1000s of military on every corner! It was a very humid evening and we felt very sorry for them all. They must have been baking in their uniforms! Taken with Canon 40D, using 70-300 IS USM Lens at f4.6 and 170mm. ISO 800 and 1/4 second mounted on a tripod.

This is dedicated to the Danish 49’er team, who after the most dramatic 24 hours in the Danish history of the Olympics, finally had their gold medals confirmed. This is just a low-res. picture taken a couple of years ago of an IMX match-race held off the coast of Bornholm. It has nothing to do with the very light 49’ers competing in the Olympics. It is, however, the only sailsport photo I’ve got. After 12 preliminary races the Danes were 1st. On the way out to the start of the final so-called medal-race, which is a final between the best 10 boats, their mast broke. They desperately headed back to port while the 9 others made a start in very rough weather. They borrowed the Croatian boat (thanks awfully from the whole of Denmark, Croatia), races out to make a start just within the time limit and started the troublesome hunt for the others. As mentioned, the weather was quite nasty on the light craft, and every boat capsized at least once. In some way, the Danish team managed to finish as no. 7, which was enough to hold the accumulated first place. As if this wasn’t troublesome enough, there were several protests after the race. Some of these were quite understandable, the ones complaining about the harsh weather conditions. While others, complaints on the Danish team using another boat than their own, to us show a great lack of Olympic spirit and sportsmanship. Fortunately the committee rejected all protests, and the much earned gold medals were safe in the hands of the Danish team. This was, however, not decided until this morning, 24 hours after the race, and the two young lads, Martin Kirketerp and Jonas Warrer had a terrible night. Congratulations lads.

Sculpture at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne. / The sculpture is very large, impressive to see, but best of all every so often it pulls apart, the segments spin around and re-align then the sculpture comes back together again. Those Olympians sure have some life lessons to share. /

All the protests around travelling the world with the olympic flame prove how serious concerned people are about censorship, politics and human rights as being practiced in China. Like in history France did to the USA i was thinking about the Statue of Liberty as a gift by athlets to the Tibetan people, taking both their opportunity to speak loud with all the media attention at this moment.
