  • Every now and then I like to “step outside” my boundary of usual subject matter and do something really different. This is one of those images. Captured outside the town of Central City, Colorado, I happened by this scene by luck, along with the other 2 cemeteries close by it. Long closed, these are the real deal “wild west’ cemeteries, long forgotten, long not seen. Looking like a scene out of the movie “Pale Rider”.....I had to photograph it. The ruts in the ground were still visible from where the old wagons used to carry the bodies up from the town. Quite an amazing place…. / Thoughts welcomed! —-John —-—-—-—-—-—-— / More of my work can be seen on my website at http://jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. • Contemplative Native American Dancer waiting to enter the ring at the “wacipi”.

  • Beautiful Aztec dancer at a Native American Powwow. She glowed with such an inner beauty and danced like a Goddess. It was hard to take your eyes off of her!

  • Hand of a male dancer at a powwow in the Black Hills. The beadwork is amazing!

  • Small Dancer letting the photographer know he was no pushover.

  • Ok.. it’s only part of the stone circle.. to be quite honest I’m pleased to have this photo. For me it seemed to be one of those days, nothing seemed right photowise. It was another enjoyable meet with Robert Hardy, I’m guessing and hoping his shots turned out better than mine :-) The Extract below was taken from Wikipedia… Taken in the Lake District National Park. Wilkipedia “The stones are of a local metamorphic slate, set in a flattened circle, measuring 32.6m (107ft) at its widest and 29.5m (97ft) at its narrowest. The heaviest stone has been estimated to weigh around 16 tons and the tallest stone measures approximately 2.3m high. There is a 3.3m wide gap in its northern edge, which may have been an entrance. Within the circle, abutting its eastern quadrant, is a roughly rectangular setting of a further 10 stones. The circle was probably constructed around 3200 BC (Late Neolithic/Early Bronze-Age), making it one of the earliest stone circles in Britain and possibly Europe, too. It is important to archaeoastronomers who have noted that the sunrise during the Autumn equinox appears over the top of Threlkeld Knott, a hill 3.5km to the east. Some stones in the circle have been aligned with the midwinter sunrise and various lunar positions.” MY OLD STANDING STONES SET

  • You have to ask why I titled it magic circle, I don’t think I took one shot of the whole stone circle. Sunset or sunrise is what adds the magic.. if only I could manage to get up early enough to capture the sunrises. / Castlerigg Stone Circle near Keswick in the Lake District National Park. • We enjoyed the mellow dusk settle on this perfect anchorage with pints of beer in hand, outside the renowned Forge inn, (officially Britains remotest mainland pub). The tiny scottish hamlet of Inverie is inaccessible by road, only by sea or a demanding walk of many miles. We had crossed to the unspoilt area of the knoydart peninsula by ferry from Mallaig for some amazing walking (see the series of 3 pics on heartbeat ridge . The sights on arrival were just captivating with wildflowers galore, deer roaming gardens, peacocks roosting (see bird in a tree and I also got the precious shot of morning gems. • Just a reminder to the old days. / We loved to see in the Cinema. / /

  • This place…secluded…alone…in the desolate prairies of Wyoming. Somebody’s dream….their first home….raising kids and trying to make it off of the land. And now the dreams are faded…..people moved away. Too hard to make it out here….but still beautiful, even when abandoned. / *Orton effect by Don Miguel

  • During my travels in six states in the past week, I finally landed in Durbin West Virginia, where I stayed with a friend of mine. This old coal steam engine depot is in her little historical town of Durbin. We finally got a chance to ride this train that soon will be reaching it’s centinial (100th) birthday in 2010. This engine is called The Durbin Rocket One of three coal steam engines actually running in the world. When we came to a short stop, I took advantage of shooting this (and yes, have quite a few shots while riding it) Something about the elderly gentleman looking at this engine remembering when he was a boy and rode trains like this enticed me to shoot it in black and white. This has not be converted, I changed settings on camera to shoot in BW, I will be adding more photos of my travels after I return from Texas this weekend. This was shot in SS priority, F-stop of 8.0, Exposure at 1/125, ISO of 400, Exposure Compensation at 0 / Best if viewed larger.

It was -20F, and I had to lie in the snow, waiting for that instant. It lasted … a few seconds … and then … it was over. After all that suffering, I was suddenly stricken by the realization that carrying the now-frozen lamp back into the warm house would put at terrible risk of breaking …. my departed mother’s hundred-year-old lamp! Oh, sure! A rational person would have just PhotoShopped something. But NO! I wanted my vision to be authentic …. yet …. eventually conceded to add the foreground grass. I was not about to go back out and try it again. / (Maybe come summer. ;p) / Graveyard Jewel * / Canon 350D EOS / Canon 18/55mm JASC Paintshop Pro x7 and PhotoImpact x3
