  • It could be the name of a video game, or that of a recording studio. It could even be a folk music group from Vancouver, or the name of a celtic rock group from Scotland. It could also represent some characters from a novel… but most likely, it could be a name that they have given themselves, the squatters who live in the disused buildings around the Old Port of Montreal. Focal length 36mm / ISO-100 / Aperture f/5,6 / Shutter 1/40 sec. Shot hand held in aperture priority / Nikon D60 / AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G VR / Sigma Wide Multi-Coated Circular Polarizing filter (forgot to remove it) /

  • Whilst on my trip to Jersey, I took an afternoon to roam the moor covered headland around Grosnez castle in the channel island of Jersey. This is one of my favourite places to visit. It is such a wonderful place to sit and think and to just take in the scenery. There are some fabulous walks / trails around here, and with the whole area blanketed with heather, the colour and fragrance is mesmerising. The name means the “grey headland” from the old Norse words “grar nes”. It was built around 1330 on the orders of Sir John des Roches, from a long lineage of Knights. It is protected on three of the sides by natural defences, features of the landscape. The high cliffs and rough seas make it impossible to attack from the sea. The the front was protected by a ditch. The castle was built with granite quarried locally, in St. John’s. I have more photos of this lovely castle, so i will share more info about this beautiful place. This is a HDR image combining 5 bracketed shots, using Photomatix Pro for Macs, and adjusting some tones and lighting in Enhance Details as part of Tone Mapping. Canon EOS-1Ds Mark ll / 28-300mm IS zoom lens / f/22 / 1/60, 1/40, 1/25, 1/15, 1/10 / ISO 100
