this was shot in Grytviken, South Georgia. The building has now probably been bulldozed as it was part of the dangerous ruins of the once whaling town. It is the town where Shackleton turned up looking for help to rescue the rest of his crew who were still stuck on Elephant Island after their ship, the “Endurance”, was crushed by ice.
Digitally manipulated image of a Old Southern Town, known for its ghosts,..Charleston
Snapped this shot on a Sunday drive somewhere in the Valley of NS, Canada.
Blake, former student of mine contacted me about a very unusual tree he’d seen near his property on the Bayou Teche and asked if I wanted to photograph it. Of course, I was very curious about the tree and went over to see for myself. I was amazed by this majestic old live oak whose root system is exposed after years of soil erosion, to the point that Blake who is six feet tall could easily stand under the tree with plenty of headroom to spare. When I entitled this photo, Under the Old Oak Tree, the words are quite literal as a tall man can actually stand UNDER the tree’s roots. Wow! Thanks to Blake for sharing this treasure with me! You might want to see another version of this venerable old tree here:
Blake, a former student of mine, is standing under one of his favorite trees, an ancient live oak whose root system was exposed after years and years of soil erosion. Blake is six feet tall, and it’s evident in this photo that he has plenty of headroom to stand comfortably under the old oak’s roots. This old tree is telling me that life’s trials do everything to wash away our stability, but if our roots are deep and firm, we can still stand tall.

One of the best old dairy sheds I have encountered on the coast. This one was near Batemans Bay on the NSW Far South Coast. Perhaps it would be a good renovator? I think not…................

Natchez, Mississippi, is filled with beautiful old homes like this one. True Southern charm pervades this community on the banks of the Mississippi River.
Hwaseong (Brilliant Fortress), the wall surrounding the centre of Suwon, South Korea, was built in the late eighteenth century by King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty to honour and house the remains of his father Prince Sado, who had been murdered by being locked alive inside a rice chest by his own father King Yeongjo having failed to obey his command to commit suicide. Located 30 kilometres south of Seoul and enclosing much of central Suwon including King Jeongjo’s palace Haenggung, UNESCO designated the fortress a World Heritage site in 1997. The Suwoncheon, the main stream in Suwon, flows through the centre of the fortress.
