  • This is a photo of Old Man on the Bayou, an ancient live oak on Bayou Teche in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana, made to order for Ashly and Phillip. Hope you enjoy it, my friends. This tree’s root system is completely exposed from years of soil erosion. A man over six feet tall can stand comfortably UNDER the tree. The exposed roots are almost like trees in themselves. A truly incredible sight.

  • Enjoyed a photo shoot today with a pro shearer Daniel – visiting the original Woakwine Shearing shed near Beachport, Limestone Coast, South Australia. The old and the new, young gun shearer working in a shed with so much history within its walls. Daniel is seen here with a very old wool press that itself is steeped in history. Im playing with differnt angles & light to see what looks best. I’ve been asked to provide some images of it to put up for sale. So I would love your feedback good & bad…..............please :) Old Port Willunga Jetty / These old Redgum Piles are all that is left of the Jetty at Port Willunga, South Australia. Officially opened on the 6th February 1868. It was built at a cost of 5,300.00 Pounds and replaced previous structures that had failed to assist in the transport of wheat and other local goods such as slate from Willunga. By 1900 all trade using the jetty had ceased and the structure was severely damaged in 1915. During WW2 the remainder of the jetty was destroyed by the Australian Army. Port Willunga Beach Caves / These are the handywork of Bill How, famed local fisherman, also responsible for the lookout atop the cliffs. For decades, Bill and his sons netted scores of fish, with Bill directing proceedings from his cliff top lookout. The caves were used for storing fishing boats and equipment. Bills experience with the 3rd Australian Tunnelling Company during WW1 gave him plenty of practice for cave construction. / / PLEASE VIEW MY GALLERY @ Glenn Alderson Photography Abstract Sunrise & Sunset Ruins & Derelict Buildings Farms & Countryside All Seascapes Botany – Flora Childhood Black & White Birds & Creatures of Flight / © Copyright 2008 Glenn Alderson, All Rights Reserved. / Please note: The watermark shown above will not appear on purchased products.

  • My godchild, Mary Beth, is moving to a new house and just celebrated her birthday. I invited her to look through my portfolio and pick something as a birthday/housewarming gift. She chose two images, St. Mary’s Oak and Old Giants. The latter was in color and at her request I converted it to black and white so she’d have a pair of black and white scenes for her new home’s entryway. Though she lives in Kansas, thoughts of the huge mossy oaks in the Deep South are still with her and dear to her. So Happy Birthday and Happy New Home, Mary Beth. Hope you like this! Love, Nanny Bonnie

  • My husband’s grandfather, Mr. Franko Barry, was a well-loved man who was respected in the community for his fairness, his faith, and his joviality. Not only did he attend daily Mass, but he lived out his beliefs in the ordinary round of events that unfolded each day. One lady who remembers him well said this about him, “The one thing that impressed me most about Mr. Franko was the fact that every afternoon when he came home from the bank, dead tired I’m sure from a long day, he still found the energy and determination to go out into the yard and play with his children. Baseball, football, just plain old rolling on the grass, and laughing and horsing around. You can’t fake that kind of stuff. He was the real deal.” When he was in his early 50s, he was getting his troop of eight children ready for a fishing trip when he suddenly felt odd and said he’d have to rest a bit before they ventured out. His wife Tootsie checked on him after he retired for a short nap and found that he was gone. He had slipped away without any warning. It was a shock to his beloved family, a shock to the community. An old adage says the good die young; that certainly was the case for Mr. Franko. I consider it a privilege and an honor to have married his grandson Tommy who carries on much in his tradition. Based on my description, can you pick out Mr. Franko in the line of Southern gentlemen in this vintage photo which I’ve refurbished in PhotoShop? I don’t know who the photographer is; this photo was among the family photos that piled up in boxes through the years and was rescued from oblivion by Dr. Robin Barry, a grandson of Franko, who sorted the treasures and compiled them into DVD format for the family members.
