Prague is an exceptionally beautiful city. This shot was taken from Charles Bridge, towards Prague Castle. I was glad there was an overcast sky, as it makes this image more dramatic to me. Thanks for looking, hope you enjoyed it. Perhaps you would also like this one: / My art with 1000+ views

This looks to be an old shearing shed of sorts but also looks to be the house as there are fire places inside (I doubt the shearer would need a roaring fire while he was at work!). / This building is on the road between Mannum and walker Flat in South Australia. / . / / . / / . / / . / / . / / . /

Nostalgia sometimes creepes in without warning..
Oil painting on canvas (sold). “Irish Cottage” shows life in Ireland many, many years ago. I saw an old photograph of this cottage and adapted the scene as I imagined it. The woman sits outside, catching a few rays of sunshine while her husband, most likely a fisherman takes a break. A small pile of peat is stacked against the wall and the thatched roof is in need of repair. Imagination is such a wonderful tool for an artist! Our little Irish cottage in the lovely county Clare must have looked like this one! Wildlife, landscapes and Irish life paintings by Avril Brand
A fact never to be underestimated – someone, out there, may still call this their birthplace. It captured my attention while in the car on my way south. A short walk on the gravel road is all it took to reach the old house that parted with its best years sometime in the last millennium. That colour, the textures of decaying wood, rusting roof and the remains of the dead tree, fallen where it lived, still searching with its long fingers for the occupants, long gone. I was mesmerised by the scene. There is something profoundly sad about the remains of buildings, any kind of ruins. Is it because they remind us of the inevitable and our disposability in this world. And all the usual questions: how old is it, who lived in it, and will it make it to the next autumn or even next week? Time to go, I had better move. The sky of ‘I mean business’ colour has been gathering strength for a while. Its forward party already seized the strategic heights from the playful patches of the late afternoon sun. When it hits, it will hit hard. On the way back, just one more look … enough time to take another breath of impressions, to treasure, and an image to share, with you.

This is a corridor of The Louvre, Paris. The Louvre is the largest museum in France and the most visited in the world. It is also the home of the Mona Lisa, arguably Da Vinci’s most famous and mysterious work. The Louvre was build in the 12th Century and initially qas a fortress for Philip II. 400 years later it became a display house of Louis XIV, and in 1793, was opened for it’s first exhibition. It was closed again until 1801 due to structural damage, when it reopened. Today the Louvre houses over 380,000 pieces of art, across 8 departments. I spent 4 hours in there and only got to see 1/8 of the entire building. Two textures added to this one and a slight adjustment of colour and contrast to make it look like an old photo of an aristocratic past. Slight crop also, to take out the tops of the many visitors heads that were in frame. Just into Alaska on the Top of the World Highway from the Yukon, we came upon this beautiful building that housed many antiques. Low and behold, there was a gentleman in the yard working on his truck, and allowed us to go around and take photos. Notice the flowers growing on the sod roof under a hot sun.
