Over the years there have been so many people who have wanted a print of this. I did the original 30×36 Oil painting back in 1988 as something fun for Summer Lights and the Mayors Art Auction in Nashville. In the original Painting, Superman had a Summer lights button on and he is flying over Nashville while Summer Lights is going on below. I liked it so much after it sold I did a hand painted print same size as the original and painted over the Summer lights button. This has always been a favorite of mine and have always enjoyed having it hang in my home.

I’m slowly working through all of my assignments. This is one of the few that I can actually upload here. For our Composition class, we were asked to draw a (self)portrait and have a certain meaning behind it (sort of). So I drew myself, kinda trying to hide behind my hair (because I’m a shy and quiet person), but not completely hiding, still trying to see what’s going on around me (because I’m also curious and like to look at things around me). And stuff like that. My brain is dead. It’s not a perfect selfportrait (nose is kinda off, and the eyes are wayyy too far apart but it looked even more wrong whenever I fixed it, so in the end I let them be), but I’m happy with it. Mom said it looked like me. =P Anyway, done with oil pastels on paper (60×40 cm).

Martha was painted during my filing for divorce. The figure is in an angry wound-up pose, with arrow in hand, ready to release if pushed any further. It was a loose sketch painted in traditional oils. The face was changed to a mask because I was having to contain my anger at the time to thwart danger in the situation—hence the arrow behind the back but the mask of accommodation. The name is a play on Martha Graham (dancer) and Martha and the Vandellas (the singing group). The blue swirls on top of the red dress also are an attempt to pacify my anger with purer thoughts and activities. Original is a 36” x 48” oil on canvas. This is a cropped portion of a large painting.

This was part of an A-Level project. I focused on the shapes and curves formed by the human body. This is an image created using oil paint.
