  • This is a shirt design featuring my original acrylic work named “First Tree”, This is truly the first tree I ever painted, the need to paint and create was something brewing so strongly inside I had to do something about it. Yet my resources were very limited, I grabbed the only paint I had any access to, a can of my father’s black spray paint, I sprayed it into the lid of the can and used the only paintbrush I owned a cheep nylon brush from a water color kit and created. I then finished my work with the only two pastels I owned brown and black. / Necessity is the mother of invention, or maybe it’s that there is more than one way to skin a cat. (Sorry cat lovers) At any rate I grew up in a home with very few luxuries but I did have a passion to create, always, I had to feed the creativity. / So this is a very special piece to me and I hope to you as well. • Barack Obama is a voice for a new generation of national leadership that reorients our attention to the potential of diplomacy, to the threats of global estrangement, to bridges hitherto unforseen that link seemingly disparate ideas, peoples, nations. In this sense Barack Obama looks forward. Yet Barack Obama also has a historical quality to him. He is a classic statesman, a leader who would look at home in aged newsprint or an old newsreel. Barack Obama stands astride yesterday, today and tomorrow in his presentation of self and his charge to the country. I have tried to capture the history of the now that Obama writes whenever he speaks with this sketched portrait, choosing sepia tones to express his timeful timelessness and sending his gaze to something bright beyond the page. Barack Obama brings shades of nuance to politics, and so I’ve sketched him in various shades (and at times no shade at all).

  • Shirt based on an oil pastel drawing on paper, 9X12”, by Dawna Morton, 2009. Done entirely from memory without referencing a photo, this oil pastel drawing of a pink and white speckled stargazer lily on a brown background was completed in about an hour. The diagonal flow of this dynamic flower creates a vibrant energy.

  • Oil pastel crayon on paper, 9X12″ circa 1992. As Cinderella approaches the stairway to the castle, a glimpse of the prince at the ball is seen through a lighted window. Neither of them knowing what the future hold in store, it is a poignant moment filled with suspense and mystery. Let that Special someone know you will love them Forever…

  • The Deer Woman is a shape-shifting woman in Native American mythology. She sometimes appears as an old woman, or a young and beautiful woman, or a deer. In some depictions she has the body of a doe, and the upper body of a woman. In human guise, she can be recognized by her deer’s feet and her brown deer’s eyes. She is a femme fatale / siren figure (much like the mermaid in folktales) and in most Native American stories, she lures men to their death. Once the man is lured away by Deer Woman, he is stomped to death when she transforms back into a deer. Deer Woman can also be seen a symbol of personal transformation or as a warning. I took some liberties with this depiction, and gave Deer Woman antlers, as well as white hair, to signify she is a spirit creature. Click here to view the original artwork
