I have tried to keep the butterfly and its shadow to scale to give the impression of a real butterfly about to land on someone’s T-shirt

457X610mm / Acrylic on canvas Inspired by traditional Japanese art I decided to explore the elusive yet beautiful world of being a Geisha. / “Geisha” ( pronounced ‘Gay-sha’ ) means artist in Japanese. The ‘real’ Geisha was not a common prostitute, the first Geishas were men who entertained patrons through artistry. The Geisha evolved into being the role of a woman in Japan, holding the equivalent status to celebrities today for their time. / The different forms of art they performed were tea ceremonies, dancing, calligraphy, painting, music, not to mention they were and still are walking pieces of art. Hence, these amazing iconic figures have inspired paintings with a contemporary edge. / Nicole Whitty / WhittyARt BUY Whitty ARt products at: zazzle.com/whittyart*

The exhibit honors my diva-of choice, the fabulous Ms. Dolly Parton! My contribution is based on the scene from "The Wizard of Oz" when Dorothy meets Glinda, only we’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto! Dorothy’s replaced by a young boy (wearing an oversized pair of red stiletto’s, of course) who is watching Dolly descend in a big, pink bubble to welcome him to Dollywood! Photo reference / I found this lovely young lady so interesting because of the feeling of freedom that her image evokes. I love the way the light enters from the upper left and reflects from the lower right from what I imagine is a body of water. The rebound of light casts a mystical aura effect. It was rewarding to have the opportunity to bring this image to life on canvas.
