This was a good day! Callie and I steal a moment in an apple orchard. Callie throws back her head in laughter as the sun warms her face.
A small painting that is first of a new series that I have been working on. The original is for sale on my web site for $125.oo / I thought it would be fun to do some of my old wind ups! / I did some of them over three years ago and since I am now doing some more elaborate settings, I decided that I would spotlight a few fun items. I have always been a BIG fan of science fiction and fantasy. It seems to be the place for the mind to imagine that anything is possible! Copyright © 2009 Linda Apple / “Easter Memories” / Appletree Hollow Series / original oil painting is sold I began the fantasy series of paintings titled: “Appletree Hollow Diaries” several years ago. Some of their personal story is based (loosely) on actual historical facts. You can read about the Discovery of Appletree Hollow in 2007 in my latest Journal entry #2 -Gertrude Ginney, Bertha Snell & Penelope Peck(from left to right) / There are quite a few references to these three later in the diary but I will say now that Gertrude, being very creative, managed to run a small millinery shop, where she eventually produced a line of hats for the soldiers in 1834. / Bertha, who was known for her snooty attitude, ended up running a brothel and spent 6 years in a coop. / Penelope, was one of the sisters of Maggie Peck (who was the wife in the first interracial couple of Appletree). Other than a note about her being very shy, she had 10 children. / Featured in: / ImageWriting group />http://www.redbubble.com/groups/photowriting To see more paintings of this series, click here / To read the story click here / /
Copyright © 2009 Linda Apple / “Tweedle Twins” / Appletree Hollow Series / original oil painting is sold I began the fantasy series of paintings titled: “Appletree Hollow Diaries” several years ago. Some of their personal story is based (loosely) on actual historical facts. You can read about the Discovery of Appletree Hollow in 2007 in my latest Journal entry Written under this image in the Appletree Hollow album, was the date of 1827 with the title: Dee & Dum – the Tweedle Twins. They were identical twins who, as far as I can tell, never contradicted each other. Rather, they complimented each other in every way so completely that they became very famous, eventually owning a chain of clothing stores – “The Tweedle Brothers” finest in tailored wool clothing for big men. Copyright © 2009 Linda Apple / original painting is sold / Print Available / Columbus Ohio T.G.I.F. and it is lunchtime! / I don’t usually say a lot about the paintings because I want the art to speak for itself and allow the viewer to create their own stories, but I have to say that I was thrilled with the end result of this painting. / It seems to have all the color, design and message that I always strive for in my work. It’s a personal thing. You know that feeling when everything seems to come together; one of those little moments that makes it all worthwhile. To see more of this series, click here- / /

Here a steam paddle wheeler has tied up to the banks on the Mississippi River at Clinton, Iowa. This steamer was an excursion cruise boat that steamed up and down the Iowa and Illinois area of the Mississippi River. The passengers were treated to fine dinning and entertainment. It’s Sunday afternoon and the Victorian age is evident in the dress of the passengers offloading, and all the local spectators and waiting people. Even the bicyclist wore coat and ties in this age of proper dress. The wagon high bridge which is gone can be seen in the background along with the train bridge which could swing open to allow the boats to pass through. The train bridge (current Union Pacific) is still there to this day 100 years later. Clinton produced more lumber than anywhere in the world those days and had more millionaires per capita. Most of the forests of the north were sawed up in Clinton.
It’s early morning time and the sun transforms ordinary objects into unexpected colors and forms. The unusual angle of this painting and its details give it an illusion of 3-D composition. It’s done on a 1.5” deep boxed canvas, painted on all sides and requires no framing.
