Just a couple of recent photos snapped at Bubble HQ / 1) I blewup Grants Helicopter – I think he might be a bit dark at me about that / 2) In a perhaps unrelated retaliation, my previously landscape filled and serene corner of the office seems to have been attacked by Xaviers pandas HOLD UP. Here’s a hi-jack. / What James hasn’t explained here is that he took offence to Xavier’s Panda being amidst all his shoddy landscapes, how could he take offence to the Panda? Xavier was inconsolable, we couldn’t get him out of the cupboard, even with the promise of chocolate biscuits, so I decided to let the Pandas run riot over his corner while James was away cleaning his feet or something. An improvement I believe. / onetonshadow / Hi-jack over. More fun soon – James

There was a small peek at some of the things that go on inside the bubble the other day, and I thought it might be nice to give a broader view of what RB Central really looks like. This is a panorama composed from 6 individual images showing the heart of operations (well, other than the pub that is). Things have changed a little since this was taken (24th August), so with a little more re-decoration it may be worth posting an updated view. Some of you will notice some fresh bright coloured shirts attached to the wall awaiting a photo shoot, and also covering up the door through to where we keep the zoo. - John / /

This office has definitely seen better days, right on the outer edge of a derelict office in a particularly rough part of the town it is in, the windows have been smashed here and the plants and elements have not waited to get in there through the handy holes provided.

Playing with office objects during phone calls might produce strange things, like 3D doodles ! Experimenting with dual sources of lighting (from above and under) to create a nice high key effect. Another shot of my favorite lighthouse! The setting sun was getting to it, and I just barely made it to the other side to get this shot! My mother would have had a fit if she had seen where I was standing to get this one! I was too excited to be scared, but I was very careful!!! :o) / Portland Head Lighthouse, Portland, Maine USA / Hope you like it and thanks for looking! Take care, Linda / I did lighten it up a bit in ps. / / /
Green river music festival, at Greenfield, Massachusetts. / This fair came into being to increase tourism into Franklin County in the middle of the summer. Featured music artists, craft artisans, puppeteers, and of course the food vendors comprised the festival this year. / The attendees were not shy about getting in on the action! / I spotted Jugglers, acrobats, girls swaying with hulu hoops, even spontaneous music came out. / The morning showers cleared in time for a morning launch, but very overcast skies. The day was bright and sunny, then the clouds started coming back in for the evening launch. / After the flight the evening finished off with a balloon “glow” they count down and light up the night! / Everyone cheers, and no one wants the magic to end. / Wonderful New England Day! / Enjoy!
BEST VIEWED LARGER Statement of Significance / The Clunes Post and Telegraph Office was built in 1879 to a design by the Public Works Department. The principal building was constructed by Messrs Lewis and Roberts at a cost of £4099 and the kitchen outbuildings were constructed by Charles Morgan & Co for an additional £279. The building replaced an earlier and smaller post office built in 1861. That the current building is so much bigger and grander than its predecessor is indicative of the township’s rapid expansion and peaking of population in the 1870s as a result of both the deep-lead mining and the coming of the railway in 1874. A scheme for the new post office was prepared in 1877 by the Public Works Department; probably by an assistant architect, Alfred Snow. Snow, along with his superior, William Wardell, and over 200 other public servants were dismissed on 9 January 1878 (“Black Wednesday”) and the plans were revised by new staff. The ultimate scheme similar in style to the first was prepared by George Watson under the supervision of Charles Barrett. The building is designed in an Italian Renaissance “palazzo” style, is of two storeys, and is constructed of rendered brick with a slate roof. The ground floor post and telegraph office is entered via a recessed arcaded loggia with the entrance to the post-master’s residence on the first floor via a lobby to the side of the building. The building is largely intact with the exception of its internal colour scheme and the interior lining of the kitchen wing. Of special interest is that the building may still be viewed in an urban setting very similar to that when it was built. The building is of significance as a well-executed and preserved example of public Renaissance Revival design, as an indication of the prosperity of the developed Clunes goldfields (the area of first gold strike in Victoria) and as a key element within the historic townscape of Clunes.
