autumn colors in the forest
Words: E. A. Poe. / Everything else: Me.
WHat particularly drew me to this scene were the patterns of light and shadow on the rocks and leaves. Taken on an Autumn afternoon in Jacob’s Fork River, South Mountain State Park, NC. Figuring out a way to get from one slippery and mossy rock to another in order to take the photo was a real challenge too-especially carrying tripod and camera equipment. / Nikon D50, 42mm,F22 ,2 sec / /

Another version of this shot was the hit shot of the past two months on my lightthinker-gallery on deviantArt. In no time it roared up into second position on this gallery: the present dates are 1985 views and 285 favs. Some of you will have had a look at my ligththinker-gallery and seen that the central impetus of this gallery lies in the combination of lightthoughts, i.e. lightful and inspiring quotations with beautiful photography. Let me give you the lightthought 490 which goes together with this picture: “We are each gifted in a unique and important way. It is our privilege and our adventure to discover our own special light.” / (Mary Dunbar) And now the sad thing. I closed down my lightthinker-gallery this week for the time being. I told my 670 watchers that Redbubble had won at least temporarily and that they had the choice of watching either of my two jchanders-galleries, the one on deviantArt or the one here. After nearly three years, a new chapter has been opened. This Redbubble gallery, still in its buds, has developped such a dynamics of its own that I decided to give it most of my energy now. I hope you will appreciate it. Taken at Laage Vuursche, 22nd October 2007. 10.33 am / Nikon D 80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 70 mm / F 7.1, 1/100, ISO 500

How different are the colours in the present winter forest here: just brown and black and grey and a little bit of green somewhere. So when I returned from my wet Sunday morning bike trip just now, I did long for the colour green again. And so I dig up this old shot, bringing my – and hopefully your – minds into a greener world. This dreamful scene of a very peaceful beechtree grove was taken near Laage Vuursche on a lovely slightly hazy day in early October 2007. You could hear the elves whisper behind the trees … Near Laage Vuursche, 4th October 2007, 9.13 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 48 mm / F 10, 1/5, ISO 1000
Once upon a time in October a prince rode down a forest lane, in search of the enchanted castle. It was a lane of wonderful high beech-trees. Surely it would lead him to something special. What was hidden in the haze at its end … ? I do not know what kind of associations this lane triggers with you. Mine are quite imaginative, as you can see. But what about the special place this lane is leading to? Though it does not lead straight up to it, at its end, somewhat hidden in a beautiful garden on the right, you find indeed an old country-house, named Pijnenburg. Its grounds are private, so I alas never have managed to get a decent picture of it. But at least the lanes are open for everyone to enjoy them to the full.
