Lislaughtin Abbey sits in an inlet of the Shannon estuary in North Kerry, Southern Ireland, historically O’Connor country. construction began in 1464, thirteen years later it was dedicated by indult of Pope Sixtus IV. In 1580 English forces moved vengefully through this area and laid siege to Carrigafoyle Castle close by, killing the defenders. They then went to Lislaughtin and all but 3 of the priests fled. Three elderly priests took refuge in the sanctuary of the Abbey. They were killed by the English soldiers and the Abbey was looted. The plaque outside the Abbey recalls the martyrdom of these men and records their names – Philip O’Shea, Maurice O’Scanlon and Donagh O’Hanrahan. A small selection of images taken in Tasmania of the greener wilderness areas rather than the coastal wilderness.
Taken at Low Head in the North of Tasmania on the Eastern side of the mouth of the Tamar River. Where the yachts for the Three Peaks Race on Good Friday head out to sea below this place. Not far from Georgetown.
strange enough? For the time anyway!
