I seemed to identify with her, and they were the first group I remember loving….other songs I loved from The Seekers which would take me into a beautiful place, “I’ll Never Find Another You”, “A World of Our Own”, “The Carnival Is Over”, “Morningtown Ride”, “Georgy Girl” ),and “Emerald City” Turn! I was going to leave ‘Seasons’ open to your own interpretation, but painting this pic brought back memories of ‘The Seekers’ singing ‘There is a Season….turn, turn, turn…’. If you look closely, you can see the handwritten bible verse in tiny writing around the heads of the three :D Instead of leaving it open for interpretation, as I’m submitting this to The Healing Journey forum for a music/art competition, I will try to explain what the image depicts. This is my family and I am the hands, although the hands also represent God. The boat is a metaphor for our journey through life, and the waters are somewhat turbulent beneath, my family is being supported by myself at great cost sometimes to me personally and God is also supporting…if you like, imagine it is God’s hands super-imposed over my hands, so that I have strength to do what I am called to do, imparting a protective and nurturing boundary around my beautiful family…..making home a sanctuary, and a safe place, it is a labour of love and the weight of carrying and nurturing can be extremely heavy sometimes, but also very rewarding. There is my daughter, my son, and my husband in the boat…and the symbol of the greek cross on the vessel indicates that my family belong to Christ, and we will be Conquerors in this life and in the next, as we pass through all of life’s testing and difficulty, we will be made stronger and have our characters’ hewn and shaped, and wisdom will come as a result. Bonded together through adversity, trial, separation and togetherness, we will learn how to work together as a team to achieve harmony, joy and satisfaction…we will support one another when life’s journey becomes all too hard and we want to give up…then there will be one of us to support the one who is down….and this will be reciprocated later when the other is down….. instead of destroying one another, we will build each other up, and make each other stronger for the fight, for the journey….we will encourage one another all the more when we are failing and losing sight of our goals….we will not give up on one another…and even if the world is not interested in us, we will be interested in one another, and remember one another in prayer and thought and spirit and heart. We will cheer one another one to be courageous and to persevere, no matter life’s challenges. And through each of the seasons of life, birth, death, life, healing, laughing, dancing, moving, scattering, gathering, giving up, giving voice, mending, loving, hating, mourning…..we will stick together and support one another. The symbol is The Greek Cross which is complemented with the first and last letters of the Greek name for Jesus (IC), the first and last letters of the Greek word for Christ (XC) and the Greek word for Conqueror (NIKA). Being the (current) most popular piece of art on RB, this will obviously get thousands of views…so I want to use this little space to share with you all the most important thing I know about landscape photography… I read it in a blog by Marc Adamus…. and it is… That you will take the best photos in places you are familiar with. I have found this to be 9000% true. I’ve probably shot 100+ sunsets on this beach and all my best photos are from this beach. This was a 7 minute exposure taken at 11:47 midnight. I had shot this fence a lot and knew when(tide) and how( comp) it looked the best. I noticed that the clouds were coming over Cape Town and thought that a long enough exposure would make it look like the clouds were exploding from the lights of Cape Town. I set up my tripod, composed the shot and took some ISO1600 F4 shots to get an idea of what exposure time will be necessary. It needed to be longer than 5 mins to get the right look from the clouds, but not much longer because the peak waves got to the tripods legs and could ruin the photo. I tried over and over…took about an hour, and in the end it was 436 seconds, F9, ISO200. The Original is brown and purple…I colored the photo using WB settings from the RAW tool…. Once again. This isn’t sunset, it’s Cape Town, South Africa, about 50km across the bay….taken from Strand at midnight. Those lights to the left is Simon’s Town. All proceeds from sales of this photo will go to the art for aid group….so please buy people…very generous considering that I’m a poor student. And this proves beyond a doubt that the photographer makes the photo and not the camera… Taken with a EOS 400D (rebel xti), kit 18-55mm lens and a circular polarizer filter…..

Last light again, looking South from the Causeway at Victor Harbor along the Esplanade across the ocean. Quite dark and brooding but available lighting was troublesome here. Canon 400D, HDR and adapted in Photomatix 2.5. Best Viewed large.

A large formation of Lava rock off the coast of Kihei on Maui, Hawaii turned into a boiling sinking cauldron by the rising tides flowing in from above and below. The water level on this cauldron would rise and fall as much as 6 feet with the ebb and flow of the waves. I was fascinated by this marvel of nature and creation.

A February storm unleashes its power in the beauty of non-stop lightning over Spencer Gulf in South Australia. This 15 second exposure shows just a small sample of a spectacular night’s viewing. The tiny lit chimney, that you can see on the left (which belongs to the lead smelter in Port Pirie), is actually 205 metres in height, which gives perspective to this, the power of natures finest glory.

The last remains of the old Port Willunga jetty, South Australia. Port Willunga Beach was recently named as the only Australian location in ‘Travel and Leisure’ magazine – hip travel list of emerging destinations. I was driving along a road in a seaside town at Jervis Bay National Park, just 2.5 hours south of Sydney Australia when I glimpsed this moon through some trees with a pathway of silver light across the water. A lucky moment, in that all the elements were there but tricky in putting them together because it was so dark I couldn’t see anything through the viewfinder and had to keep taking pics, viewing them on the LCD display and then moving the tripod to get the composition I wanted. / It looks to me like the trees on either side of the moon are partners about to dance onto the floor of some enchanted ballroom. The site can be located opposite the Hospital heading towards Reeves Point at Kingscote. HDR using photomatix. Canon 400D with polarising filter.

A bit of sunrise light over the West Maui Mountains and Lanai and a powerful sea ebbing and flowing over the rugged lava rock off the coast of Kihei. The way the ocean seemed to fold before me as I stood on rock had me in awe of the beauty of nature

It fascinates me how creation myths and evolutionary thought seem to converge around the possibility of a spark such as this igniting life. / Taken off the “Balcony” – a beautiful section of coastal cliffs in Royal National Park just south of Sydney Australia during a spectacular storm. I’ve shot about half a dozen storms here this year. The others all drifted out to sea which made them nice and safe and easy to photo so I got lulled into a false sense of security with this one. It decided to head straight up to where I was photographing and at one stage I had to hide under a rock overhang with bolts going off all around – deeply scary but wouldn’t have missed it for anything – a magic night of biblical proportions I can tell you and one I’ll never forget. Part of the Raging Stillness series this is a blend of 10 X 30 second exposures taken as part of a series of 110 sequential images during a particularly lovely night storm we had a little while ago. You’re looking at 5minutes of the storm at its height. Couldn’t resist another visit to Bell’s Beach at dawn this morning to have another crack at the huge surf – and I wasn’t disappointed! It was still powering away. / No HDR tweaking – just some levels adjustment and slight colour correction. Mother Nature did the rest. / Nikon D300 with 70-200 1:2.8G lens and 1.7x extender. /

Carved By Nature’s Wrath / The 12 Apostles, Victoria Following a day of torrential rain and gale force winds, the sun shone momentarily, lighting up the moody sky, before plunging the rugged coastline into complete darkness. As night falls, a solitary waterfall is all that remains of the passing storms, returning the much needed rain to the swollen seas of the shipwreck coast. Dawn at Garie Beach, Royal National Park just south of Sydney, Australia. A seagull very obligingly flew into shot as I was taking this. Can you spot the silhouetted fishermen? / I’m lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve ever seen – it’s only a little national park (14,000 ha) but the variety of stuff to photograph is simply endlessly inspiring. Sydney is not only blessed by a beautiful coastline providing us with countless beaches, but also some of these beaches have a “rock pool” at the headland. These rock pools provide a great place for the locals to take a dip in the ocean without the waves. During Spring for a few weeks you get this really intense green weed hitting the Sydney coast line…. I loved the contrast and textures of the green weed against the blur of a long exposure (30sec +) of the ocean and a nice dramatic sky.
