For many of us, boats hold a special magic; the promise of adventure, freedom or just a good day fishing. This jukong was resting on the shores of Home Island, Cocos Islands. Pastels on Paper 120×90 cms / Sold the original. Watch hands on an ancient clock, slow but still moving. Clicking in the dark when there’s no one home. Echoing in a hall with light spilling in through the frosted glass. Like when the game is over and it’s time to hold and time to kill, the very very last drop of milk splashes onto the page and the very very dark blue moves in the corner. Walking with me to the end of the isle pewter cups full of thick liquid that catches in the back of your throat and makes you sputter like a fire or a kerosene heater or a lamp or an old sick car with students in it too dumb / to know / not to try. / No time to write or think or curl my fingers around, a dove’s leg curse or a jewel. Pierced, oh sure, like that a pinprick in an open sky, a babbling tower. Water from the sky from the ocean from the heart, clipped, triggered and muzzled, strapped to the enormity of it. Colour-blind and balanced, capsized and immersed, a bridge that’s a seething landscape. / Titan for a Tuesday, dry as a bone wrist or a Doll’s house in the desert. / It smells like strength and vicissitude with only what you want and a cold turned spoke. / Staggering and with a head full full of light, only small acts of kindness, what else is there to find for us silent at the edge of the day? / So then it’s only you and me in a saturated blue, long kisses hard into each other / sweat and confirmation, an engine of conviction, a weapon of devolution. / A slow turning and immense mill with a lidless sacrifice and an angry wasp, pulled from one strung heart sharp over ribs. There’s only breath and life / and no promises from either, go guarantor for me that I’ll be alone, / prove me right with skin that colour, hand that soft, a zealot with a placard walking in the rain. / Drama and faith are such poor excuses. / Only hints and grace, something gone, out into the soft and never ending night with a half heard cry. / I’m sad for you, baby. / I know. I know. / I saw the tremors and the shadows in the kitchen. Like leaves and seeds bent around a chain link fence on a quiet day. It’s only me, just me, that’s all. / I can come and visit and hold your head up for you while you try and sing, like before with both hands that you pushed to my throat. / Wait for me, oh wait for me baby. / I know my arms are empty and ugly and I have hard edges and sway and rock and twitch twitch twitch and I’m sorry for all these things and for the old woman made up for no-one and for the beautiful girl so autistic she couldn’t see and for the tiny mad child that I was / and for the tiny mad child that you were, dirty hands and sweet, / sweet, / bruised skin. / Twelve o’clock on a Friday night, / Run my hand down the side of my face. Crack each finger individually. Give up, give in. Whisper and kiss the side of my mouth. Someplace or something warm. It’s okay. / It is.

Sales of this Design? – 1 sale so far :) / Tube Chic by Karin Taylor / Mixed Media Production / / I used ink, pastel, acrylic and charcoal to create the original Tube Chic / So many women have taken up surfing in our area / I admit, I always wanted to, and a few years ago / lept on a mal and caught my first wave / with lots of yahooing / yeah it was the / best feeling :) Although I don’t surf much on a board these days, i prefer a body surf or some fun on a shark cookie (body board) lol….......a lot of my family do still surf…husband, son, daughter, brother .... heck my bro Tim was pretty famous once ….they called him Twister, for his amazing manouvres in the surf and sharp flix…and of course, they all nicknamed me ‘Twister’s Sister’ which was pretty cool at the time…..since then my bro actually has snapped both his ankles doing his cool trix in the surf…..once he had to swim in and drag himself up the beach trying to get help…...no-one was around…..eventually a 4wd came to the rescue down on the beach….loaded Tim up on the truck and got him some ambulance attention…...i took him to the hospital and passed out :)) / can’t handles hospital smells!! or is it the thought of blood….both!!

Medium Pencil drawing on A1 size Kent cartridge paper. Art & Design theme Extension of the Senses of Man (Woman) / Always had a passion for direct observational drawing/painting from life/nature, especially to observe and study the human figure/form/anatomy. / The skin is our largest sensory organ and requires the extension of clothing for its protection against the environmental elements. Thinly draped clothing veiled over the human form provides ample study of soft falling movements along body lines, flowing shapes & patterns etc. I wanted to explore the human form/skin/clothing outdoors in the natural environment as apposed to life models posing in a protective drawing room set-up that I had been so far exposed to. / / Process: / Stage 1) Exploring the extension of the senses by exposing the human form/skin/clothing to the natural physical elements of water, air and earth/sand at a public beach landscape and documenting this through the photographic medium. Two fellow art students modelled for me in loose light negligee clothing. Stage 2) From there I developed a B&W photographic series learning several darkroom manipulation techniques in the process. Stage 3) From the resultant photographic imagery (on the human structure, female shapes and forms, skin & cloth exposured to the natural elements of water, wind/air, earth/sand/rock in the landscape) I further explore and study the inherent structure and ‘dynamics’ of several images and produce several drawings. / / I think my two fellow art student models totally enjoyed the creative photographic documentation experience, even though they got cold, wet and buried in sand, and I, the photographer stayed dry!

“Harmony” is a mixed media production (ink, pastel, acrylic) on canvas textured paper, the idea at first was to create a feeling of stained glass…i have a love of stained glass, and transparent things….i love light filtering through…and how light plays….i was looking for a name for the painting today….and ‘Harmony’ just seemed to go ‘hand in hand’ with these three friends

Sales of this design so far – 1 sale / / / Summer Heat is a mixed media production on Canson Me-Teintes textured pastel/mixed media paper…. being December in Australia we are experiencing some very warm weather, today the beach was at it’s most gorgeous, this painting is inspired by the sultry salty warm days by the beach we love at this time of year, and the beautiful hues of the water when it’s still like a milk pond as it was this morning :) In the background is an icecream van set up by the beach, which has caught the little one’s eye and she’s waving to the vendor. I’ve used pastels and charcoal, both white and black varieties, as well as pencil and black Faber Castelle markers The original work is available unframed for $220, but it is not so bright and in softer hues… this piece has been enhanced a bit in photoshop

Early one morn i was out taking photos at Urqharts Bluff. A beautiful stretch of beach along The Great Ocean Road. I was pleasantly surprised to find all these beautiful stones washed up along the shore for as far as the could see. It was such an unusual and beautiful start to my day.
